i played a gig at a local bar and grill last night and it was the first gig for both of these basses. for the first set, i used my vintage white/maple p bass (8 1/4lbs). i played it with the chrome covers on it but removed the tug bar.

this bass just sang with every note up and down the neck. it had the consumate vintage p bass tone. it was super comfy to play and is now my 'go to' gigging p bass out of the 5 split pickup p's that i own.

for the next three sets, i played my custom made swamp ash bodied SR. i ran it with the pickup in the split mode 90% of the time, and it was huge, fat ,and punched thru the mix on every note. there's something about the ray's body that just fits me like a glove. even though i'm usually a p bass kinda guy, the ray was even more comfy, and with its new body it only weighs 8 lbs.

after last night's gig, it's going to be hard to gig with some of my other basses for a while since these both worked so well. although i have a strong feeling that the new custom 'jazzmaster' bass that i'm building is going to give them a run for the money.

i should have wired and strung up for testing by this evening.
