For me at least, I picked nonmainstream. You I just think not mainstream music in general is better. It's not something you typically hear on the radio, which is a good thing, because if I have to hear "let it go" one more time I'm going to rip my Brain out of my skull. I wish more people I meet would hear of bands like sloppy seconds, and screeching weasel because those are my two favorite bands right now. I'm also enjoying vice squad as well as the business. I do enjoy a little bit of mainstream stuff like the Ramones, I mean how can you hate the remotes? They pretty much started punk revolution. I know this is completely subject to opinion, so please no fighting in the comments.

I enjoy both, I don't tend to like one more than the other. If I hear a band on the radio that I like, cool. If I hear a band that a friend shows me that isn't popular that I like, cool. Either way I've found a new band to listen to. I think people get too bogged down with worrying about whether something is mainstream or not and just forget to enjoy the music.

My username is an homage to the most 'mainstream' metal band ever, and my picture is a tribute to a bassist that got plenty of MTV coverage in his heyday. If I were to let the popularity of these artists dictate my opinion of them, I'd be just as bad as the people who like music solely based on its place in the mainstream.

Yeah. Geezer Butler is a pretty good bassist. And I'm not Saying all mainstream music sucks i'm just saying that there's a lot of nonmainstream bands that I like better. It's purely based on opinion

I personally prefer underground and borderline music(or nonmainstream music if you will) because those bands have real originality compared to mainstream bands. mainstream music usually sucks because they all sound the same. plus the very nature of mainstream entertainment is trends. I'm normally a hard rock/heavy metal guy, but I am open for all kinds of music except for bubblegum pop and some country music. other than rock and metal, I am a fan of dance music like techno, trance, progressive, etc. and even though mainstream music usually sucks, there are some mainstream music that's actually okay in small doses like foster the people and bruno mars. speaking of bruno mars, I dig his music because he has a retro style music. if you listen to his song treasure, you can easily hear that the song reminisce 70s soul music. now that's something innovated right there. this is what mainstream music should sound like instead of sounding like the same thing like miley cirus and the jonas brothers(Barf!). the 80s has the best music. lots of innovated music existed back then. speaking of 80s music, I've discovered a new style of retrowave music on youtube a few years ago and I thought this is really innovated. this kind of music sounds like it was made in the 80s, when it's actually from 2010. here's some clips of some of that music. in my opinion, this is what today's music should sound like.

I guess mainstream music is all about the joy of recognition and making money.

Non mainstream music is mostly about breaking new ground and doing what you love.

I naturally voted non mainstream music.
