major rabbit problem

He was abviously thinking "by the rabbit eating the body, I can easily dispose of the evidence like this. They'll die soon enough, and nobody will EVER make a thread about this "incident" on some bass related forum..heh heh heh"
well, i know that i COULD get the little critters with a gun. I am a good shot with my pistol and wouldnt endanger anything else, but my friend is quite gunshy, and by gunshy, i mean scared to death of them. The shot shells may or may not work, as i have never shot anything larger or thicker skinned than crow with them at about 25 yards.

You've got to pick a time when the family will be away for a bit - probably dawn or dusk would be best, have some lettuce and carrots to put out for bait and a 20 guage or 12 guage with #4 or 6 lead shot and then clean house.
You could always have your gunshy hippie friend take his family on a weekend vacation to somewhere that doesn't have people cleaning up his animal-based messes for him. While he's gone, you do what you need to do with the proper tools to get the job done.

!You could poison them, but that would be VERY dangerous in my opinion. Once they die, their carcasses will be contaminated with poison, so then whatever eats them after that stands a chance of getting poisoned too.
Your best bet is to just tell your friend to grow up first of all, but if he/she refuses to do that, then tell them to leave while you take care of the mess they made.
Ya know, something tells me that this person is probably one of those people who is so incredibly against hunting being legal, yet look what they are asking to be done---multiple animals killed because of something they did......

I think traps would do the trick but what do you do with the trapped animals? Humane societty?

I dont know much about guns but Ive shot my grandfather's .22 caliber rifle. I cant imagine shot from a .22 doing jack to anything. It sounds like it'd tickle.
Use something that will actually kill the thing isntead of give it a rash.

.22 shotshells wont kill a rabbit...i've tried.
high velocity .177s will (over 800 fps), but only with the right pellets and head shots.
.22 shorts will work well, as will any of the various subsonics. (out of a rifle of course). Theyre quiet, but you just have to watch your backstop.
Have you considered archery? Bludgeon tips, field points, broadheads, they all work, and with amazing effectiveness.
Blowguns work well too with small game tips. Theyre even more effective when theyre homemade and shoot broadheads made from exacto knives and light dowels.

(oh and nick... .22s are extremely powerful on small game. One shot dead in their tracks kills are easily achieved on critters up to the size of beavers, all it takes is good shot placement. Rabbits are very fragile animals, one shot in the chest or head will roll em easy.)

Oh, I dont doubt that a .22 bullet will bring an animal down*, Im just saying that I cant imagine shot from one doing anything.Jon223 said:

*Wasnt Robert Kenedy killed by one? If I remember corectly, what actually killed him was the fact that the bullet was so weak that it couldnt leave though the other side of his skull so it just bounced around in his head a bit after entering. Aparently, he was shot in such a place that a more powerful bullet would have entered and exited causing brain damage but brain damage he could live with.

No joke. A correctly placed shot with a .22 CAN kill a deer, but it's very, very difficult. If you hit a rabbit anywhere solidly (i.e. not a glancing blow) it'll at least disable it and allow you to kill it.

yeah, the .22 is the most versatile gun, and also the most economical. (bullet velocity/mass vs cost/powder amount) and it is the official mafia caliber. It is quiet to shoot, and you can shoot it to around 150 yds accuratley. It is not too hard to kill a deer with a .22, as long as you hit it in the head. (not too hard with at 100yds) and recently, a man in the news killed an attacking cougar with his .22 rifle.
Well, I may just got in with my .22 loaded with subsonics. and since the rabbits are low to the ground, the earth will serve as a good back stop. Well, maybe not in all cases, but i will be safe. besides, my guns have killed less people than ted kennedy's car.

Youre not going to win.
Why don't you just get every hunter with 50 miles out with .22s for a weekend when your friends are away, Charge them 5$ a head to shoot for a couple of hours. If you throw vegetables that the rabbits like out over an area for a couple of week before the shoot they will congregate there.
Personally I would hand my friend a box of leg traps and a baseball bat and tell him to clean up his own mess.

I do not own any, but have shot various handguns/rifles of others for fun at ranges. It seems like everyone I wind up talking to about hunting/guns tells a story of completely smooshing a rabbit w/ some sort of shotgun.
What do you do w/ the little corpses? A Big fire?
