Make Behringer sound better

Are there any ways to make a Behringer BX1200 sound better? I cannot get a new amp right now, so I figured some small modifications to it would help at least a little bit. (speaker change maybe? I'm a total noob when it comes to amps. Hence why I have this combo in the first place :p)

Thanks a lot! :hmm:

I have a BX1200 I got a few years ago when switching from guitar to bass and had grown to hate its sound. I found a Sansamp to be the cure running into the "poweramp in" jack on the back bypassing the pre and EQ sections. I keep it at our rehersal space so I don't have to haul the big rig and it doesn't sound too bad. SABDDI's can be found used for under $150 and are a great tool in many situations

The SABDDI is a good idea. I use one on the front end of my Workingman's 12, and it really fills out the sound, giving it a lot more clean bottom.

Here's one for sale in the ads right now. SABDDI

I'd say to pickup the Behringer BDI21 - an inexpensive pedal that does just about everything the Sansamp does for about $170 less. Most folks here on TB can't tell the difference in a recent thread posting soundclips. It's a very nice pedal, and makes a decent DI as well in a pinch.

I'll look more into this pedal.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, guys! Keep 'em coming!

Probably not - unless you think it sucks. If you think it sucks, then it sucks.
Sucks is relatively relative, no?
Follow advice from your choice of posts above first.
I have no idea, to be honest.
I'm quite n00bish— yet not enough to realize that my amp sounds bad.
It hums and buzzes like crazy when I turn some controls such as treble up. Will getting a BDI21 as recommended above stop that?

Don't turn the treble up. That'll make most any equipment hiss. Set it as flat as possible.

I wouldn't waste money on a speaker replacement for it. It won't change things enough to be worth it IMO. If you can't afford a pre for it, then I'd use your dissatisfaction as motivation to save up for something else.
