BWB on maple reminds me of Roger Waters. Not a bad thing.

I vote for gold anodized if rosewood. Made my oly white bass pop too. Second choice would be "the black pearrrrrrl" in best pirate voice!

I like red and black together, so a red pickguard, or red pearl pickguard, looks good to me.

I like red, too... Just not a ton of red.

I've never been a HUGE fan of them, until recently, but a TORT guard on a black bass looks great. Classic, & new at the same time.

I'm a fan of contrast on basses - a lot of that comes from playing on stages with wildly varying lighting. The difference between a white pickguard and a mint or parchment one is moot with most stage lighting - they're all basically white.

Dark brown or transparent black? They're pretty much just black - the above bass looks black under the lighting on most of the stages that I play. I have a couple basses that have very dark bodies (I don't have pickguards on most of my basses), and chrome hardware does a couple things:

1) Makes it possible to find things in very dark situations (I get that a lot - big stages often drown the singers in light, and back where I am, we're almost invisible). Even using chrome screws for pickup mounting helps a bit.

2) Makes for some contrast, which, to me, looks better than a bass that completely disappears on a dark stage.

For a rosewood neck/black body I've gone with a black MOTS guard with skirted chrome Strat knobs and nylon tapewound strings.
