drill: cordless, hammer or hand-cranked?
i don't know which way to turn. i'm partial to a bit of hammer but i dislike cords, and there is a certain old-school appeal to hand crank.

I've given up trying to prove things don't exist. I've found it's much easier to prove things do exist. You can do it one handed while holding a beer. It's like making sushi from fish you've shot in a barrel. My two cents.
A great man is a often a blend of both extremes. I generally believe he was a peaceful man, but there were decisions he made, and money's he supplied that indirectly led to the deaths of many people. Choose to remember him in a way that is most positive for yourself and your own life. My two cents.
Often when people suffer for their own personal causes they get frustrated when they don't receive the attention or support of others that have not chosen to suffer with them. I also tend to believe that many (NOT ALL) vegetarians often come across this way because they're hungry and irritable. My two cents.
I like the Deep Impact, but I just don't want to give up all that space on my board for it. Not to mention I think there are other synths out there for a better price point that can do things just as interesting. Still if I saw one for around 250 bucks I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.
I have a few synths and synth circuits on my board. They all can be dialed into sounds that I really enjoy.
My Boss SYB-5 pedal can create nice synthy sounds:
This is a really old clip from an old band of mine. I was playing my Carvin through a Carvin R600 series I head and had the SYB-5 running through the FX-loop. You can hear it at around the 4:50 mark.

I also used it as a kind of synthy flange at the back end of Crystal Method remix that we did. This song also uses a different synth combo. For the first part of the song I played my bass clean through the clean channel of my Ampeg SVP-BSP. Then when the song kicks into the change at 1:51 that's my dirty channel with the frequency and gaint cranked into a pretty good overdrive distortion. Then at 3:02 I turn on the my MoogerFooger LPF 101, and then at 3:16 I kick in the other half of this synth sound. So at 3:16 my sound is my Warwick Corvette $$ -> Ampeg SVP-BSP clean and dirty -> EHX Bass Micro Synth -> MoogerFooger LPF 101 -> Boss SYB-5 (for the glitch flange sound on top).

Another little combo that I recently put together is the Boss OC-2 -> Boss GE-7 -> EHX Q-Tron. Sometimes I add the sound of a flange to it too using a Boss BF-2. This is what you hear at the very beginning of this song and then again without the BF-2 at around the 6:00 mark. This song is still really rough and far from finished but you get an idea of the sounds I'm working with. This was a remix we did for an acid jazz DJ out of Brooklyn known as Eric Truffaz.

My favorite synth tone however doesn't come from my bass, but rather from my buddies keyboard. You can here it here on this track at about the 1:58 mark. I also have a pretty cool envelope filter going on the bass which came from Garage Band of all places.

I've also had a chance to dabble with the CoPilot Orbit and when I get a chance I'll put some clips together of that little pedal. Very cool pedal and looking to pick one up for myself. Could actually see this possibly replacing my EHX BMS for size reason on my board.
I'm currently working on a track that brings us back to our dub stuff that uses the Octavius Squeezer. I don't have any clips ready for that at the moment. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

I remember seeing this bike. If I recall it was a red specialized (can't remember if it was full suspension or just a hard tail). Nice bike. Was a little jealous because it would be a nice upgrade from my current Specialized M4 hard tail. As far as the receipt goes so he can claim to be the original owner, you should tell him to pound sand. My two cents.

The hand cranked drills are really cool for fine tuning stuff, where you don't want to go burning though something. I would use this on surfboard foam for instance. Still with that said, I don't have one, and I've learned how to use my cordless drill just fine. I have a Makita. Get an extra battery that is interchangeable with other cordless tools. Hammers are pretty low tech as far as I'm concerned. No cords required. My two cents.
The EHX-BMS, Octavius Squeezer, and if you play it in a different octave you can get pretty close with the SYB-5. These are the only pedals I've had experience with. I bet the Korg G-5 can get close too. Your best bet will most likely be the Deep Impact though. My two cents.

Wow, those are some great tracks. I'm in the process of making my first gigging board, and it's going to have three different sounds in seperate channels as planned right now: clean, EHX Enigma-->QuantumDrive (this combo simulates a Deep Impact in certain settings like I've never heard another pedal or combination of pedals do), and a fuzz with switchable octave up in channel three. I'll report in in the effects forum when I have the resources and bring it together.
I'm going to presume that you've been an English teacher for a while now. Do you find the kids get better or worse as the years go on, or are they essentially stagnant, behavior-wise?
