What are your opinions on people recieving Medicaid/section 8 housing/ebt card, getting drug tested, and giving 8 hrs of community service a week. This is something I could really stand behind.

Absolutely! If your on any assistance you should earn it by performing some task that doesn't already have a job associated.
Volunteer,do studies,put your talent to use...whatever.
We got hammered today with almost 2' of snow. No reason someone who's on assistance can't go out and shovel a few elderly people out to earn their money.

Why not simply employ them, and then they wouldn't need public assistance.
Here in Madison, the majority of Section 8 tenants are single working moms.
Who would pay for the drug testing? It's expensive. What about the presumption of innocence?

I think from taking away benefits from failed drug tests would pay for them. I think when recieving such aid, it would be alright to do urine screens.

I am all for this I had to take a drug test to work where I work and I pay taxes that help fund these programs so if I can't smoke pot and work then why should I pay for someone to get high and do nothing
If they can do 8hrs of community work it means they could work (for the mentioned time
). If they have a job already they probably don't have the time. If they can't do community work well they just can't.
And money spent toward drug test could be of a better use elsewhere.

And heck, if the single working mom wants to smoke a bat on Friday night to relax a bit when the children are sleeping, It's none of nobody's business and she shouldn't get in trouble with drug tests for that.

i recall a program here where welfare recipients got temporary jobs with the city doing boulevard clean up.....the union decided that since they were doing union work they should be and were granted full employee status,wages,benefits etc....when it came to light that a good number of them were being promoted over the heads of more senior members,the very people that went to bat to get them the job security and benefits they enjoyed,they lined up with management and said screw the union.....
i used to have a lot more sympathy for the less fortunate than i do now,as far too often the hand up has become an institutionalized hand out.....far as i'm concerned it's time for the free ride to end....we have become too soft hearted.....people have to get back to the reality that you have to earn your own living,and that those who do cannot be expected to feed,clothe,house,educate,medicate,and entertain those who won't.....

The biggest being that what happens when people that are on drugs stop receiving benefits? They rob, kill, get killed. You have to look at all the pages, apparently most people only see the book cover.

they say that here too.....but i ask,how much privacy did you have when you lived with the folks....why should living on the the public dime be different.....i hear a lot of that here,mostly from the well paid ,well educated folks that administer programs like that.....stuff like,we don't want to embarrass one of our "clients" by paying the landlord direct,and if the blows it on crack we'll just write another check.....somewhere along the line too many people have moved away from self sufficiency to total dependence,and the ever diminishing number of folks still working cannot afford to support everyone
so we just pay the danegeld.....iirc the danes just kept coming back for more until there was nothing left.....it would be better to stop jailing people for drugs and start cracking down hard on the ones that steal and rob for drug money.....i'm willing to pay for the cops and jails,hell,we're payin' for them now,but to pay a ransom so they won't just come and take it is just wrong
