Maple fretless?

I've been thinking about building a bass, and yesterday i saw a thing of glory, a fender custom shop fretless with a maple neck.
Is maple a good choice for a fretless or does it have complications?

Not as wear resistant as ebony and it shows dirt.

I'm making an unlined fretless with an acrylized maple board. That takes care of the durability issue, my client will take care of keeping it clean.

My old Fender P fretless is one piece Maple. Still looks good after 30 years. It had about 15 years of solid use. I always used half-rounds on it...

a whopping +1 on utilizing stabilized (acrylicized) Maple for a fingerboard. not only is it wear resistant, but it can be impregnated with a dye into many different colors. here's an image Larry at Gallery Hardwoods posted on some of his previous work

if you want that clean, clear finished Maple look I'd definitely consider obtaining an acrylicized fingerboard blank from Larry.

that is actually the neck wood, the Bee has Acrylized Wenge as a board.

My Benavente fretless 6 has the Acrylized birdseye board.

I recently finished a short-scale fretless with a maple fingerboard, and used CA glue as a finish. I have used it for a few months now with flatwounds, and it still looks and sounds great.
