maple vs. ebony

Maple. You'll already have ebony and maple is much cheaper in price. Another great bonus about maple is it can be seen much easier on a dark stage IME.

I've seen that youtube video before and it's a great one! There is a huge difference between the two necks but you have to watch carefully - the rosewood one you have to play with your mouth closed and the maple one requires you to play with your mouth open. I would easily be able to spot that in a mix!

I've had both. I vote ebony. It has a warmer fundamental tone with a very defined attack. Plus, I love the way it feels under my fingers. YMMV.

Ebony will hold up longer. Plus, with Carvin, it's standard (no price increase to get it over maple). Easy -- for me, get ebony due to its awesomeness and durability.

My LB70P is fretted and the ebony board is SUPER.

I've found maple and ebony to sound very, very similar. Rosewood does tend to sound darker, most of the time, but the difference is easily lost in any mix or band situation.

Pick whichever looks best to you.

I've got a maple LB70 and an ebony LB76. The maple works surprisingly well on this bass; it's one of the best sounding basses I own. And I love ebony for fretless, always. An ebony fretless and a maple fretted would be a perfect pair imo.

Ebony and maple sound very similar and I think Carvin uses ebony as their standard fretboard wood, so I would take ebony and save the money. I know I like the ebony on my TL-5 a whole lot!

I have a maple fretboard love the tone. I have an ebony fingerboard on my fretless and also like ghe tone of it as well. However ive never played a fretted bass with ebony... I wonder what thats like
