Marcus Miller bass?

its not a bass you can rock without a pg IMO... but a nice choice..the one i played didnt seem noisy at all. ill be picking up a 5 string version when the used market oppertunity meets up with the flow of cash...it just feels so nice to play
Reason I went to the bay instead of grabbing the nice 8 pounder from here is that I wanted the natural finish, BTW.
For the owners of the MM sig naturals out there... what does your's weigh?
As a data point for this (though it doesn't seem like anybody cares)... the MM sig natural 4 that I just got weighs in at right about 9 lbs.
yea i find the 4 string MarcusMiller sig pretty heavy. 10lbs on my scale.
Some people say the Lakland Darly jones sig is lighter and kinda the same as the mm sig?
They don't have Lakland basses at my local store. x.X
& I really want to find out how they sound, also to do a comparison to my mm sig.
PS: do you hear the buzzes and pops when you turns everything to MAX volume?
Because I've only turned the pickups to MAX not my 200 watt amp(i live in an apartment)......

Yes, compared to most of my other basses (Peavey Cirrus, Warwick Thumb) it is somewhat noisy. I tend to run with the treble cranked down, which helps. I've also found so far that balancing the relative volume between the two pickups seems to cancel out a big chunk of the noise. To experiment with this turn both volumes down and then bring one up close to the overall level you'd want. Then bring up the level of the other listening to the noise - if it's like mine there will be one point where it nearly goes away.
Searching in the forums here will reveal links to articles which contain instructions on making adjustments to the wiring of the electronics which eliminate ground loops that were built into the earlier models and apply extra shielding, reportedly with the ability to eliminate the hum and noise.

In my opinion, The Marcus Miller Jazz is the best you can possibley buy if you want bang for your buck. I own one and considering getting a 5 string version ( much more expensive as they are made in the US not Japan).
I have had the bass for over 2 years and i've never had a problem. I've completley abused it without a single bad result (besides cosmetic damage :|) I'm always getting comments about how great it sounds.
Now...Sadowsky...if you have the money why not look into it. I can't really say anything bad about them as i don't have much experience playing them. Most likley worth the $$$ but it is a serious investment.

I was looking at the Geddy Lee jazz but really wanted something with an active preamp... How do you guys think the MM compares?

and this was the sound I have telling people he had way way back then,even when he was playing with Lenny White on the Stream Line lpI used to see Marcus play when he was only 17, he was yet to have a preamp put in his bass.....but he still almost had that sound that he has today. I met him a few times and asked him how he got the sound on the old Lonnie Liston Smith albums, and he told me it was just his jazz with all the knobs full up because he thought that was what the engineer wantedMarcus just always had the grease!
Actually, the company that makes J and U retro also makes a model called Marcus retro just for this bass. You can have it with or without the plate and it has the passive tone control too.

I have a sunburst MM and I installed the Sadowsky preamp. It really improved the soud. It's not a Sadowsky but it trumps the origional preamp by quite a bit.
