Markbass Amp repair?

FWIW,
Markbass is adding more certified repair centers now, and the way the warranty on the MB stuff is goign to work now is going to be serviced at one of these locations. I was just informed this week @ one of our morning meetings.

They're just rolling this out, so be patient, but they've seen the issues and are taking action to correct some of these bad situations by adding more repair centers and allowing for a repair to be made than an exchange for a product that could very well have been sitting on the store's guitar floor for 2 years.

I'll post more info as I get it, but things are changing.

If their board costs are $100+ per board, their total manufacturing cost has to run in the $7-800 range.

They're selling, with at least one level of markup, at ~$600.

Do you honestly believe Markbass or GC (or some combination of the two) is taking a 50% loss?

Do you honestly believe you know what it cost them to build the amp in question?

Like most of us, you can only guess. Why would the amp cost them $700-$800 to make with a $100+ main board?

I never said they were taking a loss. I'm no longer surprised when people can't seem to grasp that simple fact.

Yes, I believe that I DO

Two things, Mike:

1. Could've sworn I was responding to/asking aborgman.:D

2. Since you DO KNOW, give us the specific breakdown on Markbass' costs for:
Main board/amp module/power supply/controls/connecters/ fan/case.

Not ballpark... people who know don't have to give ballpark numbers. Specific pricing as it pertains to Markbass corporate.
:)

Since you DO know, this should be easy. And you'll clear up a bunch of guessing on the part of many.

I take a rather educated guess - from being in the very business of designing and costing PCBs, as well as being involved in pricing enclosures and interface bits to wrap around those PCBs.

If they had a per board cost of $100 - with three boards - you're looking at $300 in board costs. If you've got $300 worth of boards in a product, I've never seen one that gets out the door under $600 total cost.

I never said they were taking a loss. I'm no longer surprised when people can't seem to grasp that simple fact.

You argued that $100 board costs were reasonable. If they had $100 board costs, they're taking a loss.

This is good to hear. Given that GC is the US importer/distributer it is important that they meet their customer's needs, not just their bottom line.

Day late and a dollar short IMO. BTW this does not mean that the repair costs will be any different, just more of them.

I made my decision when I got insight to their true colors.

That whole changing of multiple specs on my brand new amp two months after I had puchased it did me.

And guys don't let them fool you, they read these forums religously. I was critical of the limiter on here and rapidly they were coming out with a new improved limiter. I was later critical of the "new" limiter and rapidly the "new" lmiter was never put into production. And it is funny how my amp had "Bi Band Limiter" printed on one of the boards. But it never existed. :D

Thanks for the "proof". And the misreading. Or redefinition. Or whatever you'd like to dance around with this time.

:D

Oh my... You're SO influential! :)
no, he's right...he was solely responsible for that. of all the people on all the internet forums around the world, his lone voice was heard above the din and caused marco to handle the limiter situation according to his words.

:D

however, i, unlike you craig, was trying to be nice and not burst his bubble. shame on you!

again... :D
