Has anyone used one of these? I was looking into a Fractal, but you have to buy a power amp and the Fractal is mostly overkill for bass. The Multiamp, however, looks very interesting with just the right amount of effects and right amount of amps and cabs. I'll try one that I think they still have at Guitar Center sometime in the next week or two, but I was wondering if anyone has any "beyond the showroom" experience. Interested in your thoughts / opinions.

I'd like to see more on this piece, primarily b/c it appears to be a higher end unit that caters to bass specifically. There's not much out there in the mid-high/high end market that is just for us. I'd prefer to see this as a preamp only version, and for $800-900, rather than a fully blown (mono or stereo) bass head with amp built-in. I also see the limited routing (series/parallel combinations) and Cab sim forced to the final location in the virtual chain as being a possible downside. I'd expect to see more effects possibilities and broader routing flexibility at this price point.

These units don't seem to be widely used and it's hard to find them in stores. I'd like to try one.

The AxeFx 1st generation units might be competitive ($900 +/- for the Standard and $1100 +/- for the Ultra if you can find them used), and they offer much more flexibility for routing effects and more effects, and configuration, but they lack variety of bass amp models. This is only a hurdle if you absolutely need the flavor of a specific amp (that's NOT and SVT), but you can still get great bass tones using different amp/preamp models and the wide variety of tone shaping tools at your disposal. Add a solid state power amp for $400-$600 and you're in the same ball park, but again, you're trading the strength of the MultiAmp bass amp sims for wider effects and routing flexibility on the AxeFx. The AxeFxII offers more, but still a limited variety of bass amps, but is above the price point being discussed at $2200+ not including an amplifier.

The Kemper Profiling Amp is another possible choice, and it has a different method to the madness, but is otherwise a fine unit that has been upgraded to accommodate the needs of bass nicely. Again, though, pricing is in the $2000+ range not including amplifier.

I guess currently, if you want the variety of amp models, another option to explore would be to rely on existing Boss/Line 6/Zoom et al rack or floor pedals for their strength (opinions will vary) as preamps and effects boxes WITHOUT the cab simulations, and then rely on a better quality box such as the 2 Notes Torpedo C.A.B. for an upgrade to the cabinet sims. The dedicated cabinet sim/IR loader box technology is still very untapped, and there are other options such as the Logidy EPSI, and the (not yet released) Atomic Amps/Studio Devil "Amplifire", which is a guitar based floor pedal that allows for loading of custom/user cabinet simulation IRs. Of course, the problem here is that you need to know what you want in a custom Impulse Response since bass cabinets are usually a low priority in the custom IR market...or...you need to create your own IRs. The 2 Notes C.A.B. does include a nice variety of cabinet sims and mics (and placement) to choose from, compared to the others.

I see a huge void between the low price point bass preamp/fx processors and the "big boys", which haven't gone too far to concentrate on bass-only products. In this respect, the MarkBass MultiAmp presents an option, but I'm personally not so keen on what they are offering for the money - UNLESS - they've done a really good job on the bass amp models and cab sims. If they got that right, though, I'd still want to see it in a preamp for less $. That would be more appealing to the broader market, I would think.

Disclaimer, I've owned the AxeFx Ultra and own an AxeFxII, and am a fan of Fractal Audio's products. I came to the AxeFx in order to have a pro quality option that consolidated my ever growing effects board/rack, partly for practical reasons, but also without losing function or sound quality. If you don't need a lot of whizz-bang or complex effects routing signal chains, then sure, the AxeFx line of products may very well be overkill for most bassists. For my situation, it was as good as I could have hoped, but with some learning curve needed. By contrast, for lower priority gigs with simpler demands, I've found that even the "lowly" Zoom products (B-3) can do a respectable job. Again, a huge gap in features and sound quality and not much in between for this market IMHO.

I just picked up a Multibass S. Not a lot of play time on it yet, but my initial impressions are very positive. The effects are rich and the amps / cabs seem to be well voiced. It seems to be what I wanted but never got from Line 6. After battling with my Line 6 gear, I gave up on modeling. I was interested in Fractal, but it really seems like overkill for bass. The Multibass seems to be in the Goldilocks zone, just right. I'll post more thoughts after I get some more play time with it.

FWIW, I stumbled across a DV Mark MultiAmp user who started up a forum for the guitar version MultiAmp as a better public source of information and internet presence. (Why DV Mark/Markbass haven't done this themselves is a bit of a mystery.) Just today, he added the MarkBass section to the forum. If there are any MarkBass MultiAmp owners here who would like to contribute, I'm sure it would be appreciated. It would help to develop this forum as a definitive "go to" source for all things about the MarkBass MultiAmp.

Thanks the forum info. Just ordered a MulitAmp S on sale from MF for $1299. Too good to pass up.

Anybody have one of these? The few video clips that I've seen sound pretty good. Assuming it's relatively easy to program you could eliminate a small to medium size pedal board. The two MB amps that I've had have were reliable and sounded great. Looking for some review from some owners or someone who has had a chance to use one.

I have one. It definitely can eliminate a pedal board. The effects are all good but it could probably use another fuzz. I'd be surprised if that isn't part of the next firmware upgrade.

How complicated is it to program? Can you use more than one effect at a time? Similar to creating a patch with the Zoom B3 or MS 60-B.

It's pretty easy to program. There is a Mac/PC editor if you want to use that, but I mostly just program it with the front panel controls. You have 8 slots and you select what you want in each slot. Usually and Amp and a Cab in two and then the rest are yours to put whatever effect you would like in those slots. This video shows how you program it:

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm glad to help out. It's a pretty cool piece of gear, plus they're releasing the pedalboard shortly to make it more useful onstage. Basically, this is like a Fractal for bass with a power amp (or two) built in.

Well after going back and forth I pulled the trigger on one of these and I gotta say it's real good. In the past I've owned a LMIII and a BB and they were both solid amps. Looking back I probably should have never sold the BB as I liked very much. I am using a TC212 and after about three hours of going thru this amp the tones are endless. With the tuner and all of the effects I will completely eliminate my pedalboard. The ability to pick between the SS, Tube and Vintage amp mods it's like having three amps in one. While I know this Multiamp isn't for everyone for me to have an all in one setup is a big plus.

I just had my first gig with this amp last night at a festival and it was very positive. I had pre-programmed the effects that I needed prior into one of the user banks so they were easy to access when needed. What is most important is the sound. It was big and full. I was using a TC212 and switched between two basses. Absolutely no problem cutting thru the mix. It was strange not bringing a pedalboard but this amp has every effect I need. I have it programmed for a clean but deep sound, compresser, chorus, envelope filter, octaver, phaser and two overdrive tones. If you use multiple effects and want to simplify your setup give this amp a look.

I'm considering one of these but have a few questions.

Can you use the same effect in more than one slot? For example, 2 different chorus sounds.

Is there any issues switching programs during a song (delay, pops, volume issues)?

Have you used the DI in a live situation yet?

I'm sure I'll think of more.

Thanks.

I've used multiple compressors so you can do multiple effects, I'm not sure if there are any limitations though. I'll have to experiment later today.

It's hard to tell if there is any delay switching between patches because I have to use the front panel as I don't have the floor board yet. From what I can tell, completely unscientific, no detectable delay when turning effects on or off and less than half a second delay when switching patches.

I have not used the DI yet.

I used the DI this past weekend and it was fine.

I don't think there is a problem with using the same effect in more than one slot. As I was going thru the pre-loaded ones I saw that a few of them used two of the same effects in different slots.

To switch effects in the middle of a song I think you would need the pedal. I usually leave a specific effect on for the entire song. So for now I just use the controls on the front panel.
