MarkBass CMD 121p speakon issue

Sorry for the double answer...
i am a very precautionnous person, and i swear that i didnt that much to make the mistake i did.
Just have to pay for nothing now, or i will just use the crippled combo, and the newyork 121 with another head , i dont know yet.
Thank you anyway.

I agree that the placement of the output jack on the amp is awkward and inconvenient. Since it's a combo, they may have thought the user would not need to access it very often. Have you been plugging and unplugging the internal speaker when you transport the amp? If so, then yes, you should just be leaving it plugged in -- there's no reason to unplug it except to connect an external speaker.

Asking again: are you 100% certain it's the connector on the amp that's damaged? Have you attempted to plug a cable connector into it other than the one that had been inserted improperly?

Also, if it is a 'combo' connector on the amp, it's likely that the 6.35mm jack portion is still functional and usable. The cable-mounted Speakon connector that leads to the internal speaker could be replaced with a 6.35mm plug for considerably less cost than replacing the connector on the amp.

The Speakon connector is far superior to the 6.35mm connector in this application, but the 6.35mm connection would work well enough for just the internal speaker.

hello, i have never ever unplugged the internal speaker, the combo is then 300 watts.
The speakon connexion allows to add an additional cab to the combo, so there are then 2 speakers (the amp is then 500 watts).
Tha amp is ok, but the speakon connexion to add an other cab is unusuable, because i manage to engage badly the cable into it, witch i had done already several times without any problem. The internal speaker is ok, and the amp goes with 300 watts. But no more cab!
thank you, i will see what is possible and let you know here.

So now i have the answer.
The amp is less than 2 years old, but the warranty wont work because i made the mistake. The speakon cable is still in the connextion of the amp!
So the amp will come back to me next week and i will have to find myself a way to repair, or i will have to use the amp only with 300w, even if i already have the new-york 121. This is stupid but so it is.

If you attempt to repair it yourself, be sure you don’t end up with a more broken amp and an even more expensive repair.

That certainly does sound like bad news. The technician who examined it couldn't remove the plug? That sounds like a suspect diagnosis then, at least to me.

If you can extract the plug without further damage to the connector on the amp, you could probably still use the 6.35mm part of the combo connector to drive an extension speaker. It's already unusable as is, so I wouldn't be afraid to use pliers to attack it. Your opinion may differ, of course. Bon chance!

Edit: BTW, I operated pro sound systems using Speakon connectors for many, many years. Those systems employed dozens of Speakon connections, made countless times by stagehands with widely varying levels of expertise. In all that time, the only occasion someone was able to plug a speaker connector in upside-down was when the female (cable end) connector was extremely worn. Even then, it must have taken a great deal of effort. You didn't ever say: is the cable-mounted connector a genuine Neutrik product? The clones that are supposedly compatible vary widely enough in quality that the consensus among the folks here on TB is that they should be avoided strenuously.

This is a good point agedhorse, i will not try myself, but there is a technician not very far from my place, and he is used to repair the amps from a studio where i go sometimes. I know he has already done Ampeg Head repair, they have also Markbass head, but Markbass combo could be something else.
Thomann is supposed to send me back the amp without repair, because i dont want to have to choose beetween the cost of a repair and the cost of return to my place if the price of the repair is too hight and if i refuse it later. ( in another country.)
Then i choose to have the amp back at no cost without repair, without knowing the price that would have cost for a repair, but i dont know if the speakon is always in...
I also wrote to my 'friend', Riccardo from Markbass Italia to ask some infos, but it is just a dream:
Riccardo tells me at the beggining :
'We've sold thousands of these combos every year since 2005, so a few complaints are to be expected.' !
Thanks a lot eveybody!

Actually Riccardo from Markbass already answer to me, saying...
"
I've Cc'ed our Service Dept. so they will let you know about the repair and spare part info.
"

So i will see, and 'hope helps to live' (this is probably a bad translation of my grandma favorite sentence)

Why not have Thomann do the work?

They are a MarkBass authorized service center and certainly qualified to do the work. They also have access to the correct factory parts.

Because they didnt tell me the price of the repair.
They say:
1 _ we can free of charge send you back the amp as it is now (not repaired)
2_ if you ask for a repair, we will then tell you the price
- if you accept the price, you pay first and we repair
- if you dont accept the price, we can send back the amp to you for 40€, or put in the garbage if you want (i think it was an answer for all cases)

I might have made a mistake, but i choose the first option, because i dont want to pay lets say 300 € or more for this kind of repair.
They should tell the price first, but not.
I made the mistake, but i think this is too much. The amp is ok except the speakon connexion, i already pay i think about 950 € for this amp, witch is quite a lot of money for me. i will see what i can do, but this is quite discouraging!

well, reading your post, i change my mind!
I ask to thomann to tell me the price, and i will pay 40 € if i dont agree, to get the amp back,
i hope the amp is not already on his way back but i dont think so.
Thank you

These speakon connectors are a scam... 1/4" connectors have been used forever and never had these types of problems (getting stuck). I would just use the 1/4" connectors next time, just make sure they are made for speakers and not for instruments.

well, i didnt knew the speakon before this markbass, but it seems to be everywhere now.
I had rumbles 40 and 100, boss 160 (very bad amp with 2 X 60w speakers for 160 w) and this markbass, witch is a very good amp.
But the place of this speakon connector in the amp...is weird, but for the large majority of people, it is not a problem, so.

you know you can use the speakon or 1/4" connectors right?

NOPE!

Amps over 300 watts and Class D need full shock protection which the Speakon connector provides. Phone plugs or 1/4 plugs sleeves are "Hot" and live to ground.
That is why high powered amps do not give a phone plug option.

No.
i am not sure if there is that on cmd 121. I dont have mine now.
i am little confused now. When i bought the newyork 121 i bought in the same time a speakon cable to connect it to the cmd 121.
i did that less than ten times, and one night on a little gig outside, with very little light, i put the cable upside down, and realize that when the cab doent make any noise.
And we coulnd disconnect the cable and broke the connextion apparently!
