How likely or how often would that happen. Is really worth it to spend more $$ on a different or another amp when you really like the LMIII and this might happen, what maybe once during the summer outdoor gig season. I'd be inclined to suck it up deal with not being heard quite so well if such a situation arose, but that's just me and I don't make a living doing this. Just something to think about.

I agree. Been pondering getting back into the Biker Circuit and if that should happen there will be a good number of gigs outside spring,summer, and fall. Though as long as the PA is there there should not be an issue. That is what the Shuttle Max 12.0 is doing setting there under that LMIII. :D Though if I can make it work I'd rather carry the LMIII just for it's size.

BTW my Cabs are extreeeeeeemly efficient. :bassist:

I just got the Tube 800. First impression is that I really like it. It is wicked loud. I had to play with the e.q. a bit to get the sound I wanted but eventually I did. It's funny I liked the way it sounded through my homemade 2 15 cab better than I did through my SWR Golight. I really like the mute push/pull for tuning. I also did not notice a big difference between the tube and solid state setting. But I am not a big tube fan so it's not a big deal for me.

So here is a quick summary:

It's light.
It's loud.
It's got a tuner mute.

I don't know if I am going to keep it or return it yet. But I have got 30 days. I am going to gig with it and see what it does then. Hope this helps.

Your review is similar to my take, and it makes sense to me that this head (just like the SD800) sounds 'better' through a more vintage voiced cab, since it is so present up top (to the point of being a bit overwhelming for me with a more modern voiced cab with a tweeter).

Let us know how you end up feeling about it after some gigs. I would think that head pumping into a 4ohm 215 cab would KILL!

Guys - I got mine the same time Ken did and I have used the heck out of it since! It replaced a Epifani UL502 and I couldn't be happier with it. I don't have experience with the F1 like Ken, so I can comment on the differences in sound.

As stated in this thread, it's loud! it's light and I got the MB carry bag with it. Very convenient, kinda like a mini soft rack, carry in over my shoulder, unzip the front and back, take the cables out of the cable pocket and plug it in. 0 to 60 in less than a minute!

I also have a t.c. RH450 (which is going back) and I used both on a outdoors gig last week with my AE410. The band is too loud and the t.c. really couldn't keep up, had it up to 4 or 5 o'clock, or virtually 100% and it just wasn't cutting it. Swapped out the LMT 800, 11 o'clock, kicked ass! Even though the mute isn't ideal, it was one of my must haves, that's one reason I waited for the PMT 800. The second input and pre - post DI are great features as well. Lastly, on a strictly cosmetic level, it's a hell of a lot less yellow than the LMII!

So, I would encourage anyone to at least get one and try it on the MF / GC 30 day plan. It's hard for me to imagine a better amp for me, at least. With that said, when I send the t.c. back, I think I am going to get a F1 or F500, I need a back up and there is too much good press on TB to ignore this head!

Why not get a Golight 410 to go with your 15 for the outdoor gigs? Should solve your volume issues :hiding:

How would you describe the tone difference between the LMIII and the LMT 800?

I love the tone I get from my LMII, thinking about getting a LMIII but wondering about the 800.

Versus the LMII, deeper bass low bass response but less low mid presence (which gives the impression of a 'different' low end response versus 'better or worse' or 'more or less', MUCH more upper mid presence, brighter lower treble response, much louder in an absolute sense.

Also, unless you really, really found a pre/post switch on your DI key (versus the internal jumper on the LMII), I wouldn't think there would be much reason to swap out an LMII for an LMIII. They are basically identical, with the more fully featured DI, and a subtle change to the power amp limiter the only difference that I know of.

Perhaps that is a possibility.


Bhubb3rd you have got me interested in trying the Tube 800. Do not really need the tube but the other additions comined with a signal that can be a little hotter without clipping (combining the two) might be good.

Might even look at trading off the SM12 for one. I really like the SM 12 but I really prefer the smaller package of these LM's.

I was referring to the LM Tube 800. I owned the LMII and it was a nice loud head. Even cranked up to 6 on the master volume and running it through a 4 ohm load it never distorted. The LM Tube 800 which is suppose to have more wattage started to fart out at about 4.5 on the Master volume.
I can't tell you how dissapointed I am. And no I was not playing in an arena just a big practice room with my 2 15 cab.
