Markbass Littlemark rocker - Speculation/intrigue

I tried one out yesterday... I'm gonna go by again with my Stingray just to be sure, but I wasn't a fan of the drive. It was too fuzzy, not overdrive-y enough. I think I'm gonna pick up a Littlemark III and stick with my Sans Amp.

This was my fear. I use a LMT with a sansamp and was hopeing that the rocker would be close to a fusion of these two pieces of equipment (high hopes I know!)

A LM with built in fuzz is not so appealing.

It also seems to retail at a higher price than buying a LMIII w/sansamp BDDI or VT bass which I feel may be the wiser option.

Too fuzzy? Perhaps you should try turning the drive knob down a bit?

I would sure like to hear what you think after trying it out with your 'Ray since "my sound" is a Stingray+Bassdriver aswell.

Yeah I tried it again, with the 'Ray. Still not my style. Sten, what I meant was that the drive knob gives more of a "fuzz" effect than a "grind/overdrive" which is what I was looking for.

So in the end, I'm getting a LMIII (non-tube version) and the 4ohm rear-ported 4x10". Combined with my Stingray 4 and my original Sans Amp DI pedal, the sound is INCREDIBLE. I've gone back 4 or 5 times, trying to convince myself that there's no way that amp sounds as good as I keep thinking it does.... but it really does!

Good to hear your view, that's what I do - I keep coming back to the Stingray/Bassdriver setup...it sounds better than anything I try. I currently have a Peavey IPR1600 poweramp and Ampeg SVT410HLF cab to complement them.

The little mark tube is like having a Little Mark II with an overdrive pedal in front of it. Albeit a good sounding overdrive/distortion pedal, but not very usable on a consistent basis. Much past setting the tube gain after 3 it gets really fuzzy. It is not footswitchable. Unfortunately I'm sending this one back and going the route of the Little Mark and getting a dirt pedal for the times that overdrive is needed.

Just to be clear, are you expressing your opinion on the LM Tube or Little Rocker?

I played one of these the other day and thought it was a lovely sounding amp - one of my favourites out of the entire MarkBass range, and they are my favourite already.

I personally really liked the 'drive' sound and found it surprisingly authentic. I think maybe the way it's set, at lower settings it will do valve output stage drive and then if you go mental with it it'll then start entering fuzzbox territory. Personally, a tip I would suggest is to do just that - try setting it quite low-ish on the 'drive' knob but make sure the master volume is up at a very healthy level! It definitely worked for me.
