Markbass Megathread PART 2

Actually, I loved their sound. Problem is, I'm diggin' the Epifani stuff even more these days, so they were just sitting there, and as great as those EA's sound, that was just plain wrong. :) Some other folks are actually USING them now, which is the way it otter be. :)

To put things in perspective, I had a pair of EA NL-210's and was very happy with their sound. However, I now have a UL110, UL112, S1 UL310, and S2 UL310, and will likely have an S2 UL410 at some point. :D :D :D :D

The Tom B of Epifanidom:eek:

I can't delete my posts from the other thread so I'll put up this disclamer here: My opinions about my experiences with my Markbass amp are not "facts" and I never said they were. In fact I could very well be lying about certain aspects of my amp. Or not. As such take any opinion expressed by me with a grain of salt and do what I've suggested all along... try one for yourself. Or not.

No need to discuss this.

LOL! Oh man, now you're dragging it into another thread!!! And I thought I was in for a boring Friday night... :p

Ken.

Well, random post in the middle of nowhere, but I finally got the LMII and the ht112... but unfortunately its too late to try out and I won't have the time to go jam for at least a few days. :(

It strikes me as funny that this setup is probly louder, yet way smaller and 20lbs lighter than the appartment level amp. As a random question so as to not scare my neighbors, would this setup get quiet enough for a little appartment playing, or is that just wishful thinking?

Also, is there some kind of headphone solution with this or am I stuck leaving the bulky ampeg out for practicing at home and at night?

That should be a great sounding combination, and yes, it should sound great even at quieter levels, so go right ahead! :)

As long as we're at it, I thought I'd share a couple of other cab combos that have really been eye openers for me with the LMII (in a good way). It is no secret that the LMII seems to work very well with Epifani and Bergantino cabs, with varying success from model to model. But two other combos I have tried recently that really seemed to click are two EBS neo 1x12's and a single 4 ohm Sadowsky SA410.

Yes, I know the SA410 is made by Bergantino, but its voicing is quite different (more midrange push/warmth, not quite as much low end extension). I have found the lows to be ever so slightly reticent with some SS heads (the SA410 being designed for tube power, and responding gloriously to tube heads/amps), but with the LMII set 'flat', it was butt-kicking booty, with slamming articulation like you wouldn't believe! That amp really brought that cab alive! :bassist:

I have had a single EBS Neo 1x12 for a little bit, and while I love its midrange presence/articulation/clarity, and its high end is perhaps the best I have heard in a 1x12, the lowest notes, while well defined, were not as full as I generally prefer. Adding a second cab really helped out in this department, but I feel like the LMII just has a knack for bringing out more good, stout, low end response from a cab, and it just made those two EBS 1x12's stand up and fight! That is a very loud, very full, very clear, very punchy stack. I need to update my 1x12 shootout, but with the right amplification, I see great potential in those neo EBS cabs.

Tom.

Going to pick up a LMII hopefully within the next week or so. I currently have a SWR triad that i will run it with for the large gigs. I was originally going to also get a GK Microbass combo as well , but then realized that with the LM2 being so lite, it would make sense to just try to find a lite 1x12 that i could pair it with. I am in chicago and bass club is near by. Looks like he has a aggie GS112, epifani UL112, Schroeder Mini 12+, and an EA Wizzy. I will hopefully be able to try all of them out. I just dont which i will end up going with.
Any suggestions????
It would mostly be for smaller, more intimate gigs and rehearsels. I would be using both electric (5 string) and Upright. Jazz and Fusion type stuff. I think the Epifani would be my best bet but the wizzy sounds mighty tempting as well. :help:

+1 on the EBS cabs. Really good cabs, loud and clear with good definition. And the LMII and this cabs are a very good match. The LMII and the EBS Proline410 is also a killer combo

There is a new music shop in my town so today i go and check it out. I didnt expect the new shop to stock much but was glad to see the LMII as I wanted to play it myself and see what all the fuss is. WOW that little baby is loud & light!
After chatting abit i mentioned i had a gig tonight and sure would love to here it at tonights venue so he said I could take it home for the weekend and give it a go. Ive got it in my bedroom through a mesa 2x12 and it sounds great. I cant wait to run it through the 2x12 and 4x12 tonight. So far im blown away at the size, weight and sheer volume from this little pocket rocket and i would be very surprised if i dont buy it tommorow. Not as tonefull as my mesa 400+ but some nights i just couldnt be stuffed lugging that thing.

Sorry guys, two more (noob) questions now that I've risked a noise complaint...

the passive P bass I'm using didn't turn on the clip light until the pre-gain was at about 3 o'clock... is that about what its doing for other passive bass users?

Second, I've yet to own an amp with a tweeter in it. To me, this new setup seemed pretty hissy... when turned on it hissed loudly, then the hiss got quieter after a few seconds. Wouldn't be an issue with any sort of background noise and definately isn't while I'm playing, but I was curious if this was semi-normal? (the bass is shielded passably, and has an NP4 and an NJ4SE in it, so no single coils) It might be more of an issue with the master vol cranked though... I didn't try to avoid a fine.

Otherwise, this setup sounds amazing, even as quietly as I was using it. I can't wait to crank it up now, but even the limited use got me a really wide range of tones and all that. So, thanks to everyone that suggested this along the way.

I would say yes to your first question. when i had my Jazz in to my LMII i was one about 2-3 as well. No problems. Just use your ears and if it starts distorting turn it down a bit.

As for the hiss. I have recently noticed my SA450 is hissy with my UL212. Not noticed it with the 1210 but i guess the UL212 is more full range and i can hear the tweeter a bit clearer. Its not a lot but enough for me to hear it if the band aren't playing and im in front of the amp.

YMMV

Thanks for the input... I didn't think anyting was horribly wrong, but it never hurts to see if the settings/etc are in the ballpark of everyone elses. Looks like I'll get to fire her up for a good jam session on tuesday so we'll see how it handles that!
