I am debuting my F1/AE410 combo tonight. In fact I just received the F1 yesterday and have not even rehearsed it yet. Yes, I am taking a backup.
Definitely taking the Stingray. Maybe the Skjold as well. The Valenti is out of service - it has old strings and the G sounds like it has its own chorus pedal going on. I haven't had time to monkey with it.
OK, I'm back. I think the descriptions of the F1 have pretty much said it - more similar to than different from the LMII, but somewhat more upper-mid focused, and a little faster sounding. I think the F1 sounds cleaner at gig volume, which is exactly what I wanted. Personal taste only, but I prefer the F1's slap tone to the LMII - a little sharper, more pointed attack, maybe, while the LMII sounds a little more blunt and round to my ears. That is not a criticism, as blunt and round are very legitimate tone concepts for bass.
While the F1 is freakishly small, the LMII is small too and the size difference is not a big differentiator.
I suspect, on the whole, that most people would prefer the LMII, given its price point and the prevailing tone style for bass these days. I am a die-hard solid state, clean, clear tone guy, so the F1 is my choice. I plan to keep both around, however, as they are both great. If I end up on any rock gigs, I would certainly reach for the LMII, especially paired with my Valenti Jazz.
