Markbass Megathread PART 3

I suppose I can share some morsels and not ruin the meal, eh? :smug:

Well, one funny observation was from our guitar player. He laughed at how we had to wait for the bass rig to reboot after we blew a breaker. :p In truth, that whole computer-controlled power tubes thing is pretty amazing. It's a bit odd seeing a tube head with an LCD screen and a serial port, but man, that head is sweet. It performed very well. Plenty of tube fullness and girth, but with a surprising degree of clarity. And the 108 was a real joy to move around. It's so darned light for its size! But it does not sound it, at all. I did boost the bass a bit, but it handled it well, and I liked the high end clarity.

On the whole, it was a great rig, that worked well for a wide variety of tones/genres.

Wow, that's awesome! I'm really looking forward to trying one out. I don't think I could bring myself to spend $2600 on a head, but it sure is tempting.

And if Peter shows up here...

I am having a little trouble stacking up my 151HR and my 102P. The 102P doesn't align perfectly on top of the 151... There is a slight tilt to the side, so the 102 sits in a small angle to the side.

Is it supposed to be like this or is there a problem with the interlocks on one of my cabs?

Well, I will try to take pics when I have some time. It is nothing major, just annoys me aesthetically.

I'm going to Italy in 10 days and expect to get a complete update. I should have some more info the following week. Stay tuned...
Until then, I can tell you that the cost will vary, because it will depend on the sophistication of the modules you buy. That's one of the benefits of a modular system--you only pay for the bells and whistles you want. The weight will also vary, but in general you can expect the average MoMark to be only a bit heavier than the Little Mark II. And the size will be a bit larger than the Little Mark II.

Hard for me to say for sure... The Traveler series cabs underwent a redesign last year in order to stack perfectly with Standard cabs. Can you tell if the cabinets themselves are the same width? If so, then perhaps there is some issue with your corners?

Hi Peter, thanks for responding.

They are the same width, but the length is different, the 102P is smaller in length. I tried placing the 102P upside down - same results. I then turned the 151 upside down, same thing... So if it is something with the corners, it is with all the corners.

How can I have this looked at/solved?

Hi Peter,
it seems that because the 102P is shorter in length (depth), if the front corners are interconnecting perfectly with the 151 corners, the corners on the back don't match the back corners of the 151, so they either sit higher than the ones in front (on top of the back corner "rails" of the 151, and not "inside"), or I have to move the 102p a little sideways so it "catches the back corner rails" of the 151.

Is there a solution to this?

I recently acquired a Stingray 5, and last night I gigged it for the first time through my LMII-->Berg AE410 rig.

I'll tell you guys, I have some nice basses, a couple of them made-to-order. I don't think I have ever heard such a ready-made, effortless, plug-and-play can of bad ass as what I heard with that 'Ray last night. Where I normally feel like I am constantly fighting the compromise battle between definition, punch, and "big", this rig just pulled it off, right where it was supposed to be, without being asked.

What a fantastic bass, and its inherent barky midrange/sizzle pairs remarkably well with the LMII/Berg combination. Unfortunately, it's a heavy bass, as they tend to be. But not as heavy as my Yamaha and I will find a way to get used to it.

Damn, that sounded good.

Did you try it with a 5 string? Could the cab handle the B?
