Markbass Megathread PART 3

Anybody tried the MoMark particularly with the tube preamp? Does the tube pre really make a difference compared to the solid state pre? If I recall correctly, the review in Bass Player mag seemed to suggest the tube pre did make a noticeable difference.
I'm considering options for my next amp. I'd love to get a Mesa M9 Carbine, but a Shuttle 9.0 and MoMark 800 are also on my list...

I've already had to pass them on, but I did gig with them a bit more after that post, and I do feel they're quicker. It's really a very interesting cab. Not as much going on in the low lows as some 12's, but talk about low mid punch. Nice.
i'm still thinking of picking up a pair, maybe not to take on the boat with me to sea, but after playing through one, i thought that two might be hot...i will be using a LMIII more than likely, unless i go for a trade with an F1, which might be a little better just due to the size...we don't get a whole lot of room, ya know
my new rig...i think i may add a markbass 2x10 or 1x12, im not sure which though.
That's a cool cab. You don't see many of those around. If I were you, I might look around for another MB Cab of that vintage to go with it.
i would love to find a 1x12 or 2x10 to match it, but they seem rare to come by. The yellow on the cab is nowhere close to the same hue as the newer stuff, such as my markbass head, ha. But if anyone sees one, honestly, tell me.

The Tube pre adds some nice subtle warmth and works well with the more powerful digital amp modules to warm them up - nothing drastic, no grit etc.

Help me choose a markbass rig.
I just sold my old rig and am seriously looking at the markbass stuff. The markbass site has a total of 20 heads to choose from! I tried a few at the store and really liked the ones with the 2 filter knobs so it must have those (magic knobs). As for other features I'm pretty much open.
I play covers in a 5 piece band. Blues, classic rock and oldies in small to medium size bars with or without pa support. I like my sound to be as warm, fat and low as possible. If I could get away with an almost dub sound on stage that sounded "GOOD" and be heard through the mix without the need of a massive wall of speakers then I would be happy. Do I have an immature ear?
I liked the markbass cabs and would like a matched rig, but again, so many to chose from. A one 4 ohm cab would be ideal but two 8 ohm cabs might be more practical.
Please help me choose.

What did you have before, and what did you like about it, and what didn't you like about it? Also, what kind of bass do you have, and what sounds do you typically go for, more of a modern bright sound or more of a warmer classic sound?
I had an Ampeg BA500 combo (210's) and an SVT15E. 350 watts alone and 500 watts with the 15. I play a Lakland Glaub with flats and a Warwick FNA (single humbucker).
I like both modern and vintage but I tend to lean toward the warm classic sound more. Warm, thick, fat, deep and pillowey are terms I've heard here on TB. I like to boost the lows and cut the mids and highs as much as I can get away with without losing anything in the mix or straining to hear myself.
Then at least for an amp, I would suggest the LittleMark. Either the tube, III, or Rocker, but not the 800. Maybe the TA series, as well, but I would not recommend the F or SD line. The Markbass cabs would also probably suit you, for that matter.

So this is how I see it,
LMIII - Basic no frills
LM tube - tube pre blend, mute
TA501 - full SS, tube comp, mute, 2 band semi
TA503 - tube pre, mute, 4 band semi
I'm a fan of compressed sound. I wonder if the TA501 is is the one for me? However it doesn't have a tube pre amp. How does this head compare to the LM tube. Is the compressor any good? Is not having the tube pre-amp as noticable as say the ones with?
What about some Markbass cabs?

IMHO, the tube in the pre of the "tube" versions of the Markbass stuff I've tried has been very subtle. I don't think they designed it to truly emulate a tube head sound. It seems to be really more just to add a little tubey roundness to the sound, so I wouldn't consider the lack of the tube to be a deal breaker if you see a model that's everything you want except that. In short, IMHO, the TA501 should probably be the first one you check out.
