Markbass ? Why the dislike ?

When I walk into my local GC...MB is clearly the highest price when you compare with other products with similar/same speaker configuration and power. Tone is totally subjective and I understand some think they sound so good that the additional cost is worth it. I agree they sound great and possibly better than other competitors, just not "better enough" to pay $200-300 more for the same speaker/power.

If you really use it a lot, Markbass is worth it.

I have a Mark 210 4ohm cabinet. It's a little beast. Great cab, looks good imo, and plenty bottom. Love this cabinet

My first higher end amp was a Mark Bass F1. I played through it, pretty much exclusively with a pair of Bergantino AE112s. Liked it a lot. Unfortunately, it went up in a puff of smoke during a gig. When I spoke to a tech about a replacement, he told me that he has had serious problems getting parts for Mark Bass and recommended that I stay away from them. That is one reason that I will not buy MB products. The primary reason, however, is that I prefer to deal with North American based companies that have no less than amazing customer service and reliability. Aguilar, Genzler, Mesa, and Audio Kinesis are four that come to mind.

The only real along the lines of things of people not liking Mark Bass was people who used their products but found it just was not for them, I have never really heard about too many people totally bashing their products either.

My reasoning for not considering Markbass is solely due to superficial aesthetic reasons.
I think a large chunk of their offerings are very unattractively designed, and remind me of highlighters or the band Stryper.

However, I think Orange amps are incredibly appealing and some think they are obnoxious and gaudy, so what do I know?
It's an Italian thing, take Picasso for example.

Club Bass was Canada's exclusive dealer for many years ...and got me hooked, as the owner and tech both used their heads and raved about them(Italian made)
Jeff Berlin came here and had a demo night endorsing them

....We all paired them up with Bergantino cabs and were all very happy for many years

Yup, I bought my F1 and 2 Bergantino AE112s from them. I had no idea I was going to leave their store with such a nice rig!

My new MarkBass 102P has a surprising new fan. One of my main reasons for buying it was the weekly coffee house gigs, my Ibanez practice amp was getting a little long in tooth
and did not play nice with the B string. So recently my wife has started coming along on the coffee house affairs, and I would routinely joke with folks that she was my roadie, as she carried something light, such as a mic stand or similar.

Now with the MarkBass cabinet, I toss my GK MB200 head in a shoulder bag that has cables and a strap and the bass over my shoulder, no need for the hand cart.
Once my wife found how light the new cab is, that changed. Now she delights in walking into the room carrying the MarkBass just to see the looks on people's faces when she
carries in one handedly with ease what they assume is a 60 lb box.

I never thought she would enjoy one of my gear purchases so much!

I had a supplied backline this afternoon with a LM250 Blackline into a GK 410BLXII. The rig was sufficient for the stage volume and it was easy to dial in a good sound.
For the rest of their heads: I wish they all had the Blackline aesthetics as opposed to the looks of the toxic green Ninja and Stryper LM's. My MoMark is uuuugly, but its mine. :ninja::D

She considers 38 pounds / 17 kilos light? I might shake her hand for that but for concern of her breaking mine .... :bawl:

I wouldn't mind owning the little 2x8" rig that has been sitting at my local GC for years now but even discounted down to $499 I can't see paying that much for it. I can't believe the price was as high as $899 at one time (and even that was not MSRP!) I bought a popular tube head AND a fridge for that much. Two 8's? Seriously??

Granted my needs are different and I can see the appeal of a great sounding, compact rig (PJB Briefcase?) but I buy more for value/mileage than name most of the time. Markbass doesn't appeal to me from a price/tone aspect.

Well, when I first got it, the thing was here in the dining room with the other amps for a week before she noticed it. Then when we were packing up to go to the coffee house, she always tries to help.
So she picked it up, and got this little giggle. Now I don't have the chance to pick it up, she grabs it out of the back of the van first thing when we get to the place.

Cause.....YELLOW!....cause yellow is for, like, Bananas, and like, Lemons and ....well, Pee........again,

the YELLOW!

.....and for MarkBass drivers !
