I wonder if it's the same mark bass preamp that's coming in the current run of the Cort c4 and c5 basses.
Yes. I'm actually following a Cort on eBay now with the MarkBass pre and Bartolini pickups. Very nice looking bass.

I don't think the problem here isn't innovation and people not liking Markbass being innovative here. It is in many cases because musicians are very conservative and especially these days "we" like the vintage or retro stuff (hence all the reissues of old instruments), but not here. The problem is Markbass ísn't innovative here. They cláim they are, but both basses aren't. The design isn't new, the layout isn't new, none of the ideas are new and the ones that seem to be don't seem very succesful on paper - the looks (although one can debate the "inspiration" ZON has given them), the knob layout, the weird name of the tone control... Reading through the promo again makes me think: you guys really think you've made something unique that everybody was waiting for and it doesn't seem like that in this thread.
Here's what's in the ad that's just plain wrong (factually) in my opinion on the Kilimanjaro:
-"Original Design"
It isn't. Maybe the headstock a bit. But it's not original.
-"Competitive price"
True, we don't know the price yet but it doesn't seem like these basses are going to be cheap, looking at the feature.
-"Refinished frets"
What are those, anyway?
-"G Spot Tone Control"
Do I need to explain that? "Everything in a one of a kind sensual way"?
On the MB Gold:
-"All the most sought after features"
By who? Not me. Not by many bass players I know. I have never heard anyone say "boy I would love a P-style body with J-pickups and an active three band preamp with only 20 frets".
-"amazing GOLD finish"
Well that's debatable.
-"Reduced nut with in a pure vintage style"
Wait what?
-"Two way truss rod for ultra precise adjustments"
That's a 60 year old feature. I expect a bass like that to have it. Many words for just *a* truss rod.
-"Getting J style pickup and neck on a P style body is a dream for many players"
How do they know this stuff?
-"The Tone control lets the player move from Jaco or Motown style tones to more modern and open sounds"
Jaco is pretty open and modern to me. But I wonder what they mean by that.
Now, all that aside: I am very very curious about these basses. I really want to know if they're any good and I hope they're coming to the Mannheim Guitar Summit in September and bringing them. I don't think they're doing much good about the expectation with this promo but I really want to play them and will try to do so with an open and unbiased view
Their marketing dept should see this - looks like they were paid by the flowery word and not the insightful content.

No one has SEEN in person.
PLAYED in person.
Or even found an MSRP for yet.
Of course, you can always object to the aesthetics of an item based on a photograph....but for ME...
...I'm gonna withhold judgment on these new basses until I've had a chance to try them out myself.
I'll admit, I'm not really attracted to the two "K"-models, but I am intrigued by the gold "J" model.
I like their take of a jazz layout on a "P"-style body. I also don't mind the gold paint. IF this model can find a price point at $1K or less, I may very well be a player. AFTER I've had a chance to try one for myself.

I bet you half the peeps here don't even own or have ever owned one single Markbass or DVMark product, never mind having any kind of financial investment in the company.
Reading this thread makes me wonder about a lot of things and let me say that it's not positive. Many of you need to lighten up, especially the ones talking about failure before it's even on the market. And if it is, what do they care? Going to sing and dance around a pit of fire and celebrate someones' failure? Krikey... how sad could you get? Go gig and make money, move out of you mom's basement.

For all I can see, Fender is a failure. There are so many used guitars on the market, it's getting harder and harder to sell new ones. They only have a P and a J. The ones that love those two and sing mighty songs about them are the exact ones that won't buy Fender's effort to bring in a new line up. Complain, complain, complain and sing, P bass is the best, P bass is the best, P bass is the best.
Think Harley Davidson. The fanatics ride 30, 40 year old modded ones. They never buy the newer models. Yet the company needs repeat customers. The fanatics are the exact sames ones that are driving the company to the ground by not supporting the company by buying their latest products.

You seem slightly triggered by mere opinions about a silly bass guitar. In the same breath where you are slamming the naysayers (or, people with opinions), you’re exhibiting the same exact behavior you claim to bemoan. So it’s ok to have a less than favorable opinion about something, as long as you’re the one with that opinion? Got it.
Even if it's true some are criticising the bass before hearing it, many (including me) are criticising the advertisement. And what you say about Fender is true, but posting critics in this thread doesn't mean the poster is a Fender die-hard who criticises every other brand by principle.

I am not talking about those criticising the advertisement. G spot or G string. I am talking about people wishing failure on others. Like I wrote above, some of the comments are borderline slandering, especially when the bass isn't even out yet.
