"Married" to the same bass for almost 50 years

i have had my jazz bass for almost 10years nothing like some of you guys but one day

Bought my 60 jazz bass in 1971, so 40 years for me. Still the only bass I own, and my faithful daily driver. I had a Ripper for a few months around 79 and a Kramer for not quite a year mid 80's. Neither really did it for me.

I have a friend who is an very good local bassist, and he has been playing for almost 50 years. He's had the same '60s P-Bass (don't know the exact year) all that time. A dozen years ago or so, he got an Ibanez 5-string fretless of some sort, and that's the only other bass he's ever had.

I'm just wondering if anyone else there has a similar track record. (It sure isn't me. I've got 7 right now. )

If that P bass player's parents bought that first bass for him, that would be funny. He may be a low maintenance kind of guy, you think?

I've had 6 basses over the years, I have 3 now. I guess the longest is my Jackson 5 string bought around 1998, but I mostly play the Conklin now. However, I do have matching Ric 360 6 & 12 string guitars I bought new in 1967 so they're going on 44 years.

My first serious bass was an Ibanez Roadstar rb850 that I bought new in 1983. Still have it 28 years later. I bought a 1978 Fender P Bass in 1987. I still have that too. The Pbass has been my main bass for 24 years.

I have a Fender BG-31 that I've owned since November 2007, but I haven't played it much at all. I've had my Squier P since December 2008, and my Squier P5 since October 2010. They're both great; hope to own them for many more years!

This is such a great thread. I've owned around 20 basses now, but the longest one has only been for 3 years. It's a Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V modded to 6-strings. Such a great bass, but it now serves as a backup to my Carvin LB76 (circa 92-94).

While not a bass, the longest guitar I've owned is the Yamaha Eterna EF-15 acoustic I started on in 1984. Bought new, so 27 years so far.

I bought my first bass in 1983, a MIJ Memphis P-bass... that was my only bass until about 2004. Still have that bass (28 years). I now have 6 basses... but my wife doesn't understand why one still isn't enough

50 years...that's amazing!!!

I've only been back to playing since 2003, and have owned about 60 different basses since then. The longest I ever owned one was 2 years...and regretfully sold that Jazz bass.

I currently own 4 basses...2 of which I've had for at least a year...so my GAS is getting better.

my first i had was yamaha, i both it used, we got 8-9 months together, and my secon was warwick proline from 93, i had that 5-6 week, then i trade it with my own tribute L2500, with i hade now 6 months, and i hope we gonna have longer time together

I bought my 4th Bass, a '73 Fender Precision, used in1977 for $200 that was all I played until I bought a Custom Shop '64 Jazz Relic in 2007. Recent I've bought 3 Squier Jags and have a RIC 4003 on backorder.

I have a G&L L-1000 I've owned for 30 years.

Great bass. I bought an 81 L-1000 used around 1990. Been my main bass ever since. I have strayed to an G&L L-1505 on and off for the last 5 years when a fiver was needed.

I bought my Fender Precision new in 1969. I haven't played it for about 15 years after switching to 5 strings, so that was 28 years with just one bass. It had 3 changes of pickup though!

I've had my Fender BG-31 acoustic for four years, in December. However, I don't play it much at all; my #1 is my Squier P that I've had for three years. I foresee using that bass for the next couple decades
