Mary Kaye P-Bass (special edition)

A number of years ago Fender put out a beauty of a special ed. "Mary Kaye" P-Bass. It was ash w/ trans white paint, white p.g., gold hardware, r.w. fretboard w/ 1-3/4" nut. The kicker was that the body size was SLIGHTLY oversize! I know this as fact because I measured it against a "new" P. You could tell just by looking at it. Can anyone enlighten me on this bass? Nobody believes me.

Mary Kaye White is what the Trans White Finish is called. Mary Kaye was a guitar player in the 50's and 60s, and was quite well known. Unless I have my wires crossed i bet this is what you are looking for.

As much as i hate Ed Roman

"VO" serial number, all gold hardware - even the screws holding the pickguard are gold. Probably the finest quality P-bass I've ever owned. I've sold several vintage P-basses over the years, but not this one.

Hey people,
Thanks a lot for all your contributions! The link by "iamthebassman" shows the example I saw. The owner stipulates in his ad that it has a 13" body. My '02 P has a 12-3/4" body. It still leaves open - the reason for the oversize. I talked to the guy who had traded in this bass & he said that he also had it's sibling - a J bass w/ the same appointments. Whether or not it also had an oversized body - I dunno. But I suspect that Fender ran the table w/ tribute Mary Kaye's. And no - "SurferJoe46" - I don't THINK they put lipstick in the string compartments.(I,like you am a big '57 gold guard fan) Thanks also Johnk, for that great G.G. shot. My '02 "Mary Sue" is also wearing one.
Lets see if we can find out about this "oversize" deal.
Thanks a bunch!

Thanks "smcd" for those great pics! Did you by any chance measure the body? (Just to be sure)
