So, I got my Super 800+ in this week and I'm having a heck of a time with output. My number 1 is active -- as are most of my basses -- and I can barely get the master above 9 o'clock without it pushing my amps input to clip. I've scanned the thread a bit and have seen some things about trim pots, but I've also seen the section in the FAQ about messing with them. I've yet to open it up and I don't really have any desire to until I know exactly what to look for and what to possibly adjust, so any help would be much appreciated. @Sensei Tim , I was going to send an email until I saw how active you were here. Maybe it would help someone else out, too.

The Super 800 is based on the preamp of the 800RB, so it's got the same kind of output as the 800RB preamp. There are no internal trimmers on this circuit.

Having the master at 9 o'clock isn't necessarily a bad thing - it just means that whatever amp you're using doesn't have "a lot" of headroom. the Master control is the very last thing in the preamp, so the only thing that it will do is take the original tone and attenuate it.

what you set the master to also depends on how you have the EQ set and the gain and boost. if you are cutting a lot of frequencies and don't have the boost enabled then you'll need to turn the master up, but if it's the opposite then you'll need to turn the master down.

Hope this helps

Okay, thanks. I've been running it into a Genzler MG800 from the 1/4" out or the xlr into an ART MPA II tube pre or directly into an instrument input on my interface (Audient Evo 16). I still need to dig in a little more, I just thought that the signal was pretty hot with the eq relatively flat, no switches or boost on and the gain set pretty low. I'm going to try a few more settings tonight. Don't get me wrong, I love the way this thing sounds and I would rather have the headroom than super early clipping. I'm just trying to to figure out how to hit the rails without having the master a hair above off.

Edit: I'm also going to try running it into the return on my amp to see what kind of goodness I can squeeze out of it then.

Yesterday, I received the Master Effects Manta Ray 3-Band EBMM Bass Preamp. Ran the pedal into my MIM P/J with Aguilar pickups, and into a MarkBass head and cab. Controls set flat. I couldn't believe my ears! I was an immediately smitten with the tone. No other preamp/pedals that I've used had 'the tone' for me, including Aguilar's Tone Hammer, Sansamp, etc. Even after fiddling with the multitude of knobs, they always left me less than thrilled and was getting used to the lackluster tone that I perceived. Not so with the Manta Ray.

Just gonna leave this here

oh man

I've looked into making rack versions of various pedals that I make and in all cases the thing that's just ground everything to a dead stop is cost.

Getting a 1u rack fabricated/punched/painted/printed cost me about $120US when i did it in 2020/2021. I can only imagine it's more now. And then the shipping costs were astronomical as well.

I've tried looking within Canada and the cost is even higher. I've tried looking to some asian suppliers but they won't really talk to me unless i'm ordering significantly more units that i want.

For the last thing i was going to make in a 1u rack (Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ preamp) I was getting dozens and dozens of messages saying "if you make this in a 1u rack i'll buy one" but then when it came time to take orders all i heard were crickets. I can't afford to order 10-20 rack enclosures only to have them sit and collect dust. :-/

I have a Super 200 question, Tim. Or rather, two:

1. The tone stack – I think / it sounds to me like it works the same as the AD200 and Terror Bass tone stacks, i.e. "flat" would be somewhere around 8-9 o'clock for Bass and Treble with Mids dimed (rather than everything at noon). Correct?

2. The Master dial is, like, at the end of everything and simply boosts / cuts the main circuits output, but doesn't interact with tone as does the combo of Gain and Volume, yes?

Cheers from Switzerland,
-Sascha
