quick update: i got the enclosures earlier this week but the PCBs have been sitting at the DHL depot in LA since dec 15 and have only left today.

the first 4 Super 40's shipped earlier this week. If i get the PCBs tomorrow then i might be able to get some more put together this weekend but i don't think i'll be able to get anything into the post until after Xmas.

My pair of Super Fortys arrived today! I only had a chance to spend about 20 minutes with them so far, but they are killer! I hope to get more time with them in the next couple of days and will report back. Thanks Tim!

Waiting very impatiently for your thoughts on this. Any chance for a sound sample?

I spent a little more time with them today, but not as much as I would like. I'm using Rickenbacker's Ric-o-Sound output and sending each pickup to a separate Super FORTY. Spent most of my time on the bridge pickup and getting some very good tones out of it. I did a *little* A/B testing with an SC-40 and the tones are very similar. Very happy so far. I don't have any sound samples yet, but I plan on doing some of that. I have a side project that's taking up way too much of my time, but I'll be doing more testing soon. I'm very happy with the Super FORTY.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that. Looking forward to the sound samples.....of course when you have the time.

Ok, some sound samples of the Super FORTY and an Ashly SC-40 for comparison.

Some general notes of the demo tracks:
For this demo, I used a 2011 Rickenbacker 4003 bass using the Ric-o-Sound output jack isolating the bridge pickup. The bass has Rotosound roundwound strings with medium use (meaning not very new or zingy), Classic Amplification pickups, with the bridge pickup capacitor engaged. The signal chain is as follows: Ric-o-Sound output jack using a TRS cable; the other end of the cable splits into 2 TS cables; the bridge pickup output is connected to the input of a Whirlwind A/B/Y switch. The output of the "A" channel is routed to the ME Super FORTY, the "B" output is routed to the Ashly SC-40 blackface unit with the distortion mod. The output of the Super FORTY is routed to channel 1 of my audio interface and into my DAW. The output of the SC-40 is routed to channel 2 of my audio interface and into my DAW. I normalized the audio so they were approximately the same volume, but didn't do any other processing.

Thank you so much!
The 2 samples sound so similar. This pedal is a winner! Time to order! I also plan to use this with Ric o sound.
Did you say that you ordered 2 of them? If so, could you explain how you would set the one you'll use for your neck pickup?

Glad you guys found the samples useful. I did order 2 of them and received both. I haven't spent too much time on the settings for the unit I'll use for the neck pickup. Generally, when the output of either of the pickups is solo'd (sp?), it doesn't sound very good. It's just when they're combined that you get a good tone. For the neck, I just want a nice clean deep tone.

FWIW, here's the setting on the Super FORTY that I used for the sample:

The clips sound great! :) Nice playing too!
If you are chasing that GedRick tone I believe I recall an old interview with Geddy where he said that the bridge pickup was sent to the Ashly preamp and the neck pickup was DI'd and went straight to the mixing console for a bigger bottom end. Live as well. I could be completely mistaken though?
Happy holidays and thank you for posting those clips!

I'd wager that both of you are correct. Decades ago I saw a friend's program from a Rush concert that included a gear listing for each member*. For Geddy I distinctly recall a long list of rack gear, Ashlys included, and some of it was designated for each side of the stereo output (each pickup, undoubtedly).

*I loved Alex' listing because it was so casual compared to the other two. Snippet: "I bring four guitars: a red one, a white one, a black one, and a brown one".
