Leviathan wasnt that great, Lifesblood (EP) and Remission are totally awesome..

Oh and bands like mastodon, I dont know.. maybe Isis could be a bit similar..

Isis has very little in common with Mastodon. The final song on Leviathan sounds like something Isis would have done, but that is it.

thanks guys, after having this cd for the last year or so and not really listening to it (wasn't into it at the time), I just started listening to it and it's awesome!

Mastodon are great, a really unique style and sound.

Remission is probably my favourite album, but the re-issued first sessions "call of the mastodon" are stunning. Along the same lines as Remission, but a slightly different flavour.

Can't wait for the new album

I'm really enjoying Remission and Leviathan equally. I hope I can see them when they come around. I just picked up The Call of the Mastodon last night but I have given it a listening to yet.

I can't seem to get more than 4 songs into the album without getting bored. I can't figure out what bothers me about it. I've heard worse singers (even though this guy isn't great)... I haven't given up on it, but it hasn't struck me as brilliant just yet.

I did the same thing. Amoeba in Berkeley had the 12" picture LP, which grabbed my attention, but I picked up the CD so I could actually listen to it.

The songs are great, and my drummer says they kill live, but the production on that album is so awful I can't listen to more than a couple songs at a time. The vocals and bass are buried, and it was mastered so hot that my ears actually start hurting after a bit. Bad production can easily make good material unlistenable for me.

Still, the band has my interest, and I'll check them out when they play here next. Good stuff.

Saw them live at the Mean Fiddler (London) a few weeks ago. Wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped to be, but the second half of their set got the whole crowd going.

I don't think it helped that I wasn't into the supports (Dozer and Burst) too much, although Burst had a few great tracks, and they seemed nice guys at the merch stall afterwards.

I'm still making up my mind on which album is better, Leviathan or Remission. Anyone listened to Behold The Arctopus or Dysrhythmia? Both great, similar sounding prog-metal bands.

I've seen both. My band has actually played with Behold the Arctopus twice. They are really nice guys and excellent musicians.

I'm a big fan of Mastodon. I think they are a great mix between Stoner Rock and Metal.

I also like Keelhaul and High on Fire, though those are also two rather different bands.

I love the band as a whole but oh damn does their drummer "make" the band for me. The guy is just amazing. I'm sitting here watching a clip of the song "Mother Puncher" on youtube now my jaw on the floor the whole time. Brann has to be one of the best metal drummers of all time.

I've seen both. My band has actually played with Behold the Arctopus twice. They are really nice guys and excellent musicians.

Wowzers, they must be hard act to open for or follow. I love Colin Marston's Warr guitar work- amazing. He also gets maaddddd propz for remastering the Atheist reissues.

I picked up Levithan because I heard the name Mastadon and loved the album art and thought, "WTH, is this an album about Moby Dick" after looking at the song titles.
