Matching headstock poll

Completely depends on the bass in question. I have one, and am extremely fond of it. It is my ‘62 Jazz Bass, which came to me defretted, stripped truss bolt, stripped body, and open circuited bridge pickup. Bryan Galloup in Big Rapids MI helped me out with the nitro refin. The headstock and neck finish is original. My family nicknamed it Bucephalus, after the effigy in The Black Stallion, a family fav at the time. My handle is a mis-spelling, due to stupidity on my part. Anyhow, I very much like this particular matching headstock.

When i couldn’t afford to be choosy, looks were never a consideration.
Once i was able to be choosy I discovered looks were directly related to cost. The more i spend the less likely I am to take something with cosmetic features I’m not happy with.
The exception is if it has a superior feeling neck.

Depends. My stingray and sterling have non-matching headstocks, my Heartfield and Better Mousetrap have totally matching headstocks, not just painted fronts.

Just had to check my 6 basses and I now realise that 3 have matched headstocks. Thanks for asking I had no idea.

Almost always, yes. The exception for me is the bass in my avatar. It is that copper/shoreline gold color with a roasted maple neck/headstock so it kinda already looks like a matching headstock.

I liked them but wasn't adamant about it until I put the Squier Bronco neck on my custom painted Musicmaster body. It just looked washed out to me as is. So I painted my first headstock, had my daughter make a new sticker on her cricut. I love it.

There are certain colors that seem to do well with the headstock painted AND the type of fretboards also.
Now, to just figure that out....hmmm

With a maple fingerboard, no. Dark fingerboards, yes.

If it's unclear, let me specify a bit.
I'm referring to a headstock that matches the finish of the body rather the natural finish of the neck wood.

Unimportant to me what others like where such ‘decor’ is concerned. Manufacturers should, under all circumstances, do it the way I want it and not the way anyone else wants it. Even though the likelihood of me purchasing any more basses in my life is not high.

Although with certain color combinations I'm okay with a plain headstock (i.e. Fender maple board), in most cases, given the choice between two identical basses, I'll gravitate to the one with the matching headstock/body. I have numerous custom finishes on guitars and basses where matching was specifically requested. With production line stuff, sometimes you get it, sometimes not, and a great playing and sounding bass still trumps all else. And if you're like me, you have a couple of great refin people standing by.
