Matching Headstock

I think it should be required by law. I've never understood, having seen so many Fender or Fender-ish instruments with terrific paint jobs on the body . . . . . . with a seemingly plain-wood neck sticking out of it, like they got the body done, and it was 5 minutes before quitting time on Friday and they just stuck a neck on it and ran out the door. I understand that's their 'look', but it stinks.

I think they just look more finished, complete, more 'of a piece'.

Then to make it even more aggravating, get a clear finish body with an all-maple neck, and the clear on the neck DOESN'T match the body. Or then on an all-black bass, instead of an ebony fingerboard (black), what do they use? A rosewood (brown) fingerboard. Oh well . . . . .

I always thought a Lyte would be a killer candidate for conversion, with the 4-knob rout and the P/J routs, battery box. This conversion with all EMG horsepower, a great paint job and bespoke pickguard, is a seriously fine and well thought out example a couple steps past what even I'd had in mind. A first class build, and my congrats. Brilliant !

The Lytes were another design Fender SHOULD have continued to mine: In a way, a Fender equivalent of the Ibanez Soundgears in that it's about as small and 'lyte' as you can get in a conventionally-shaped instrument, and one of THE great answers to the question when someone finds a PBass or Jazz too big for comfort. Had they developed them to the level of this custom, they'd be selling like hotcakes.

Hats Off to Ya ! !

I own a few that have natural/non-matching headstocks and think they look fine on the right bass (like a Fender or Stingray), but +1 for preferring matching headstocks!

Or like @Hounddog409 said, complimentary. I went with a gloss black headstock on my Carvin SB5k to match the pickguard, a small tribute to a late friend, inspired by an incredible teal green Lakland legacy he had with a gloss black headstock.

5sg.

Considering a bass project.. What is your opinion on matching headstocks? Please post a photo of same if you have one....Thanks
I have a hard time buying a bass with an unfinished headstock, unless it has a maple fretboard.
I will buy basses with black headstocks, though, my EpiphoneThunderbird is white and my Reverend Thunderbird is a deep red...both have black headstocks.
Matching headstocks simply look better.

I know this goes against the grain on this site... but on Fender-stye basses, I like natural headstocks. Matching headstocks on Fenders have always looked cheezy and kinda 80s to me for the most part. YMMV.

But this is heaven...
