Maya Grabber copy

I guy has one... I want another Grabber for a backup, but can't afford to pay the average price of one, which has gone up in the past few years.

He's asking $300 for it. It's been repainted black, not a terrible paint job, but I'd probably wanna strip it. What do you think?

If it has a very nice neck for you and very nice sound for you, then buy it. Whats the brand? Got any pics? Stripping current finish for redo with natural might be fun and great looking bass if it has a nice solid wood body. If its a plywood body bass however, Id say its not worth concidering even if neck is nice. Maybe worth the asking price or more if it plays and sounds very good.

He says it plays great and was recently set up and got restrung, but I can't play it first. He says it's virtually identical to his real late 70s Grabber. It's a Maya. I assume it isn't plywood. He said it's heavy and it originally was a transparent finish. Here's another Maya just like it, pre-refinish.

I have a Maya jazz. It's fun to have around because it's so old, but it's value lies in sentimentality. It's easily ~35 years old. But they're not the greatest instruments, truth be told. $300... Too expensive. Then again, that grabber could be a diamond in the rough, who knows, right?

The headstock with those tuners looks pretty hokey to me. I would ebay a ripper copy before buying that thing.

I have a EL Maya Rick 4001s copy. Very nice bass (1981) made in japan. From what I have read maya and El Maya were made in Kobe Japan and the factory was destroyed in the earthquake.

I don't know what you're trying to say. So, aesthetically, it looks silly? I don't really care about that. They're tuners, they're made to tune things. If they do that, I'm happy.

This is the only Grabber copy I've ever seen, this brand. I don't want a Ripper.

Some of these Japanese mid 80's basses play really well. I'm about to fuse the neck from a Yamato P Bass copy onto the body of a Hondo P Bass copy. The Yamato Neck is just beautiful, but the body feels like it was chewed to shape by an unwell beaver. Bottom line: If it plays well for you then do it, personally 300 clamshells seems like a lot though...

I thought about this more and 300$ would maybe be worth it for a good copy think of how much good fender and rick copies go for, although the gibson is not as popular.

But you want a cheap backup grabber so there it is I suppose, I just would have to play something like that first.

The seller's price when I saw his listing said "$250, down from $290," and $40 shipping. Then he told me $320 shipped. I asked why the upcharge, and he said "well, it's what I want now."

I told him that it's too much, and if he decides to go down on the price later, I'd take it.
