Possibly so much to relate here. Right now it's maybe a time for reflection but time and again my experience with the Beastie Boys tracks keep on inspiring. I love the creativity he brought and the way cool grooves.

I'll take a sure shot at some intergalactic sabotage...
My roommate in college used to play The In Sound From Way Out! quite a bit. I was actually just listening to it earlier this week.
A great artist from a great band. The other 2 credit MCA heavily with being the spark, and as a band they were a pretty big thing to me as I'm the right age (just slightly younger than they are). I'd have to call him a big influence.

"Paul's Boutique" was a staple for me. The Sabatoge video is one of the best videos of all time, IMO. They're all great in it, but his lanky physicality cracks me up every time. What a loss.

I love the Beasties. Always have since the first time I heard them on WRAS college radio. Not sure how much influence he had on me except that I am a huge fan of rap, especially underground rap. And Beastie Boys opened my ears to that initially. I recorded a lot of bass tracks for rappers in the nineties so while they didn’t shape how I play they definitely defined some new opportunities. RIP much love.
I had the pleasure of hanging out with all 3 OG Boys at 688 Atlanta when they were on Madonna’s night off on tour. Completely by chance but they were stupid cool and had a lot of laughs.

While I admired the way Yauch walked the walk of his personal philosophy, I have to say that the Dust Brothers inspired me more musically.

I've never heard bass carry a song in a way which no one had really played a bass before.
It's easy to see that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's amazing. It is equally amazing that it was a hit! (probably because of Spike Jones)

Paul’s Boutique blew my mind when it came out. The sounds he got on the bass and the way he used space in his lines. He wasn’t a Flea or a Les. He didn’t have crazy chops. But he really understood sound and the groove.
