Meazzi Hollywood (referenced) project

I found a local (Oakland) metal polisher to buff-out the aluminum bits.

Excitement!

Actually Pat's sending two finished bodies together! The other is a re-fin in Firemist Gold Metallic on a custom body (Calabrone) that was damaged in shipment to its new owner. Unfortunately that sale was refunded, so once back together it will be listed on Reverb again.

this time it was UPS... still dealing with the insurance settlement after 5 months ~

From a sort of golden brown to gold - I realized that many people don't like brown. I think it will sell quicker in gold.

Re-done hs face also -

The two finished bodies (Juniper & Calabrone) are out for delivery. Really looking forward to seeing Pat's execution of Antigua. I imagine it's not a highly requested colour/finish. I'll have to ask him if he's ever done one before, but I'll guess he's done just about every guitar finish there is at least once in his 40yrs of finishing.

I like that better than what I typically think of as Antigua. Warmer.

Dude... that burst!

Definitely nicer than old school Antigua but still reminiscent there of.

Just delightful!

Thanks, yah - it alludes to Antigua but is different. These are the references I sent - Pat created a warmer version adding the reddish tint/highlight. I would have liked the '70s Fenders version - but Pats' finish has a more complex bouquet with hints of toasted marshmallows... :) (joking aside... it's awesome!)

I was never a fan of the 70's Antigua when new. When I was at Real, the nickname was "mayonnaiseburst" and I've never been able to lose the association with spoiled mayo (no such association with yours!) - however, I LOVE the way it looks when aged, beat up and worn. Yours looks great in my subjective opinion :)

Well put - I don't recall seeing one when new in the late '70s and have seen many versions over the years that I don't like. Google 'Antigua' and you'll see so many variations, including the most recent one that looks green. And like you I do like the amber'd vintage Antigua like the examples I posted.

I always connected Antigua to 'Harvest Gold' :) Maybe the newer version was referencing its appliance style-mate 'Avocato'?

Pat's version is unique and IMHO perfectly suited to that instrument... it's gonna look fantastic and like it's from the era. :)

Yes, I agree - a retro 'look' that never was but looks like it should have been! :) And that finish for me goes further back, to the '30s-'40s when those sort of colours were used on cars, fashion and industrial design.

Yes, very 70's kitchen appliance and cabinetry. Needs shag carpeting, too ;)

I really like the layering thing that happens with the old ones that have been really played.

Also reminded of a favorite song lyric from Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers:

"The girls would turn the color of the avocado
when he would drive down their street
in his Eldorado"...

Sounds like a comedy parody! :D (lets see... what rhymes with avocado?...) The other thing about seeing a bass with an Antigua finish is knowing it weighs 13lbs!
