You can get it smoked and unsmoked and it is generally cured, I believe. Actually If I'm not mistaken; it wouldn't be bacon if it wasn't cured is some way or another.

It's not necessarily bacon even if it's cured either. There are things like prosciutto, for instance. You can get it smoked and unsmoked and it is generally cured, I believe. Actually If I'm not mistaken; it wouldn't be bacon if it wasn't cured is some way or another.

Ok, I have to give a report on my first bacon experience. I went to a grocery store yesterday and all the pre packed bacon looked a little sad so I postponed my bacon-fest. . And since I've learned a thing or two about bacon on this forum, like the facts that it can cure short sightedness, hair loss and most VD's, I figured it would be best used as a hangover snack. So I started preparing yesterday and this morning visited a specialised meat shop and got every kind of bacon they had. With the help of my chef-in-training friend, we prepared the stuff this morning and ate it with some eggs, bread, fresh orange juice and gin.
Now, I'm a believer.
I'm with the other British guys here - back bacon is the way to go.
