I'm at my shop today and a regular (Phillip) stops by. After shooting the bull for a little while, he casually mentions that he built a bass once and he named it "Fred Flinstone" (did I mention that Phillip is a colorful character?). Naturally, I am intrigued. Phillip leaves, but returns later with "Fred". Wow!
This bass is huge, crude & sounds incedible! The 34" scale neck is maple, through the body. Fingerboard is ebony and has no radius. The body is hollow and is made mostly of mahogany (& Bondo!). The headstock came out a little thin, so Phil covered it in fiberglass (He repairs surfboards for a living...in Tennessee!). The hardware & electronics are Carvin.
Phillip is a great rockabilly upright player and one cool dude to boot. He also has an incredible sense of humor. Let's hear it for those that march to a different bassline!
