Men Shaving... I'll never understand

Ugh. I'm cursed with sensitive skin and bristly whiskers. I hate the process of shaving (and the subsequent bleeding), but after 2 days of growth my scruff gets intolerably itchy. It's also almost entirely grey now, while my hair is salt and pepper, so keeping the scruff ages me a good 5 years at least.

I had a beard off and on for a while. I had a moustashe the entire time. Then a female friend asked what I looked like without any facial hair. In a moment of alcohol and girl inspired madness and weakness, I shaved my entire face. I regretted it immediately. Then all of the women I knew told me how much better they thought I looked. I stopped regretting it so much. Then I met my wife, who doesn't like facial hair. So, I'm continuing to shave.

I shave for women. Gotta do something to get the chicks, since I'm a bass player and won't be getting 'em with music.

I hate shaving but hate having facial hair even more. First of all i only get hair on the stupid part of my face. All i can get is a goatee. And well...i really dont like goatees. At least on me. If i could grow hair on my cheeks and stuff, maybe once in a while id try the unshaven look, but as it is being unshaven makes look ten years older (not helped now by the fact i have many gray hair on my chin) and well...ridiculous. Still i go through many days without shaving just cause im lazy and don't like doing it. No gf i ever had thought i looked better with facial hair anyway.

Just sayin' :D

Ill never understand this concept of men shaving. I currently have to for work (not for long) and never understood people who purposely do this for their own appearance. I think it's stupid to make a man look more feminine. Why wasn't this viewed as some sort of cross dressing 200 years ago and shunned?i might as well wear a shirt and paint my toes.

Good God, only in America can someone think of shaving as an "alternative lifestyle" choice.

I've tried growing a beard, its to itchy for me. If you want to be uncomfortable just to look more like a man then be my guest.

An old man once told me, "Why cultivate something on your face, that grows wild on your back side" :D

I shave because I hate beards, especially now since it's so hipster. That's just me.

I'm sick and tired of this "hipster doofus" fad of having a big "luxurious" beard. :rollno:

I want to take a lighter to all of them.

Picture it...

That would be awesome.

Hopefully that would melt the fake black plastic glasses too.

The thing about hipsterism is that hipsters do what regular people do, but in an "ironic" way. (Their definition of irony, anyway. They won't even interpret words like normal folks.)
It's the presentation that makes it look goofy and draw attention. Hipsters pretty much do a bit everything if you consider all the various hipster fashions. Hats, no hats, glasses, no glasses, beards, no beards, suspenders, no suspenders, skinny jeans, not skinny jeans, etc. Basically, if you don't do something because you saw a hipster do it, eventually after seeing enough hipsters, you won't be able to do anything at all.

So hipsters with beards don't make having a beard a hipster thing to do. There are just guys who grow facial hair because they like the way they look and there are guys that think they're being funny at the cost of their own credibility.

As far as the first part of your statement, the itchiness goes away. That's just while it's growing in. Once it fills in and softens up, the itchiness is gone.

As for the second part, speak for yourself! :p

I've been sporting my beard since before the "can you hear me now?" Verizon guy even put on those stupid glasses. I keep it trimmed and close. Played a show last week where the other band on the bill was so cliche hipster, it bordered on parody. Beards down to their chests, skinny jeans, etc. They at least played a great show. An original project I'm in now, I'm definitely the odd man out (I don't own skinny jeans, no Converse kicks and only have two flannel shirts in my whole wardrobe), and played the last gig in a BMW Motorsports jacket with regular loose fit Levi's and Merrill sneakers. I actually crack fun at them about it "Why were you late? Home trying to squeeze yourself into those jeans?", etc...
