Mesa 200 Buster club

Took delivery of my Buster today, my first all tube amp! My pickups are pretty hot and I hit distortion anywhere above 1/4 on the volume setting. Has anyone ran a lower gain preamp tube with good results. I am going to have the amp checked out / retubed, looking for suggestions.

Thanks!

I'd look into your preamp tubes. Unless your pickups are truly insane you should be able to get more useable range. I use a Cirrus with 18v active and don't get hair until at least 1:00-2:00. If all else fails, just run the gain wherever it sounds right and crank the Master.

I have found that the buster is a LOT brighter than my 400+.

My old Buster (now housed with 3rdcurve) was a lot brighter than any other amp I've used. I always cut the treble and mids on that amp.

FWIW, it stayed clean to about 12 o'clock for me on the preamp.

Got it on Monday! Just played it through my new traditional powerhouse 4x10. Sounded fantastic! I took the Mesa Engineering badge of the cab, and put the badge from the buster on it! Looks a lot cleaner, and more "traditional" if you ask me ;) . I have a mark v "boogie" logo in the mail for the buster. It's going to look so fricken bada$$$! Pics to come when the "boogie" logo is on the buster.

Spent another hour or so tonite playing with the EQ (and the product manual's suggestions), and I am really diggin this amp. My previous favorite was my Streamliner..... It just can't hold a candle. Gonna take it to the Tech, get some fresh tubes and a clean bill of health. Will miss her while she is gone.

Yeah I would have been lost without manual! I prob need to do the same (retube). It sounds great with the tubes in it now, but I can't help but want to hear it with a new set of tubes....but if it ain't broke....

May I join the club ? I have been using my Buster with a Bearfaced Compact with great results.
I will post a pic soon

I think if ya have one your in;) it seems that their isn't a number or anything.

On second thought....I nearby nominate you the: OFFICIAL numer issuer :p

The good thing is, you get to be number 1one1 :hyper:

So just make me number 2 then:smug:

My band just booked a weekend at a professional studio for December and so I think it's finally time to (re-) take the plunge and go tube. A Mesa Buster 200 is what I'm really jonesing for. Let me know if anyone sees one for sale! I'm in San Francisco if that helps...I'm sure one will pop up locally eventually, but I wouldn't be opposed to paying for shipping either.

Man there was one for sale not too long ago on here, that was like $550 or something. I was rehoused, but it still looked pretty nice.
