i just picked up a 72 ampeg v4b and i need a cab for it . i have a chance to pick up a 90's Mesa Road Ready 800 watt EV equipt for $400 . what does this beast weigh? is this a good deal or should i wait for a b25 etc to turn up ? this will be my gigging gear so , it will be moved 1-2 times a month . i plan on using this for punk/hc . any help is appreciated . thanx in advanced !!

mesa 2x15 ?

Atleast 120. Prob closer to 140. They are quite heavy.

The RR Mesa weighs least 120lbs. I built my own version (based upon TL606 design), and it weighs 100 lbs with neo drivers. The Mesa will sound quite good (as does the TL606D).

While the Mesa 2x15 RR is a butt heavy pig it is also virtually indestructible and sounds incredible. I had one as my main goto cab for almost 20 years and gigged with it almost every weekend - that's a lot of load ins and outs! That cab took an enormous amount of abuse with no worries. Such a great sound and capable of painful SPLs. For a time I ran it with an SWR 6x10 off a SWR SM900 and while my rig filled a mini van it was heaven!
Only prob I ever had was when I let bassist from 3 Dog Night use it and he actually blew one of the 15s

My first amp was a Peavey Mark 3 into a Mesa/Boogie RoadReady 2x15. Played that rig throughout high school and college...
The 2x15 from Mesa will sound great with the EV speakers. It has very convenient handles located on the sides, the casters are immensely strong and the roadcase that the cabinet is built into will take some serious punishment before even showing any scarring.
As everyone has already replied, the main liability with this cab is the weight. The cab actually weighed more than I did when I got it at 14 years old (I've since "caught up") and loading it into a van or truck wasn't so much difficult as just physically taxing. The RoadReady cabs only have 1/4" inputs so using a Speakon-out amp will require special cables (buy at least two). And the rugged appearance can deceive some bassists into thinking that 2x15s can crank louder than they should when they're expecting the responsiveness from 10"s (that's how one idiot that I loaned the cab to blew both speakers...never loaned out gear again).
As much as I loved that cab and had great memories of it, I traded mine in towards an SWR Megoliath and don't regret it.

$400 would be tops. And only if it was in excellent cosmetic shape. I'd offer $300. Almost certain you could meet in the middle @ $350. If less than excellent condition, then south of $350 by whatever amount you think is appropriate, probably a max of $300-325. Of course, must be absolutely 100% functional.

it is in good shape from the pics i have seen . the cab is the older design with the black squared grill pattern.
For me, the though of loading that thing at 1:30 AM, after being at the bar since 7:30 and playing 4 sets is a deal breaker.
I owned a 2010 Mesa 2x15 Powerhouse about 2 years ago, it was a freaking monster to load and unload. I think it weighed right around 130 pounds without a road ready case. It had HUGE sound for small to medium sized venues. In larger venues it would be mic'd obviously, but you could feel that bad boy if you were within 20 feet of it. I ran it with a GB shuttle 9.0 and it had headroom for days, never even came close to using more volume than it could handle. Had a nice bite and crisp highs to compliment the BOOMING lows it could deliver. Good cab if you're up for a workout.
i just turned 44 and not really into workouts !! thanx for all the replies so far ! the seller also has 2, 1x15 mesa cabs as well . will they sound the same as a 2x15 cab ? all my other cabs have 10's so i think i would like to try 15's. any other suggestions? i got around $500 to blow
The 1x15 Mesa with EV is not bad to carry - I can manage one and it sounds great. And I don't see any reason why two 1x15 stacked wouldn't sound just as good as a 2x15 assuming the same speakers and same design (I think Mesa used classic EV Thiel box dimensions)

I have one. I can barely lift it over thresh holds. It's also top heavy with the 400+, so pushing it around on wheels is a shaky proposition.
I seldom lug my 2x15 around anymore...
The TL606 (Eminence DeltaLite 2015 II loaded 1x15) is usually more than enough. Typically, the TL806 (DeltaLite II 1x12) is sufficient for for most endeavors these days!
I have combined the 1x15 and 1x12 when more volume is required! Though there is some minor phase cancellation between the 2, it's not enough to sabotage the gig.
I'm now hunting for artists to uniquely "decorate" my cabinets... Will post results when available... ;-)
