It is rare but you may want to check phase between cabinets

Also try putting a wedge under front of 2x10 about 20 degrees

If your getting good tone and volume out front don't see need for new cabs until you fully vet what may be happening awry on stage

As with cabs you mentioned as many have said both are excellent

I considered Barefaced Cabs before I tried and bought/kept Mesa 1x15

With Barefaced I read all the praise they got but could only hear them from Alex you tube videos that we're not impressive and knowing first had to order and wait also being in US his try before you buy wasn’t available Giving Mesa first shot seemed sensible before going Barefaced

Knowing if I didn't like barefaced could easily sale and only take a small hit

Can only comment on the Mesa since I’ve owned one for 6 or so years now. It’s excellent. It IS tight, defined, and controlled low end with GREAT punch in the mids and it will take a huge amount of low end should you want it to.

Smooth but with amazing authority and (with extreme ease I might add) can slice everyone’s heads off IF one is so inclined to do so.

What your describing is what I'm looking for. I like my PJ but I tend to play more like a jazz bass player. I play more melodicly than most bassists and with some quicker funkier leanings and too much low end just makes all the notes smear together.

I'm headed out next week to go test the Mesa Subway 410. Although they both sound like they could be incredible, I think the Mesa is going to suit my needs and playing style better. Thank you all for your help! I'll let you know what happens.

i was having a hard time hearing myself on stage as well, sounds similar to what you are describing. have you tried raising the cabinets up or tilting them back a bit? my solution was to get a tilt-back 210. it's aimed more at my head now and the stage volume stays reasonable since i can hear it so much better. standing directly in front of my GK Neo 212, it was very difficult to hear the cab because it was aimed at the back of my legs. sounded great out front though.

If I were buying a new cab and two contenders each received positive reviews, I think I'd choose the one that made it easiest to hear myself on stage. Most 4x10 cabs get plenty loud, but are too far from my ears to hear my intonation clearly at reasonable volumes.

The neutral (or “honest” in BF speak) voice of the BF 12’s makes them a blank canvas, ime. They take whatever you’re feeding them. In my case, I prefer controlled lows and punchy mids. My preamp pedals cover that just fine. I’ve learned that the Super Twin needs some power to really show off. I have other cabs that sound better at lower volumes.

If you are having difficulty hearing any cabinet, tinting is back just a little bit can help.

Also keep in mind these notes:
BF is quite thin, depth wise, which can help if you car’s trunk is your moving space. Mesa is widely and easily available today, BF will be several months in lead time. I paid no additional duties on my ST in Sept 2024 but today, who knows. The tilt back wheels are available on the ST and the Mesa 215, otherwise you have casters or nothing.
Can’t comment sound wise but I’d bet they are very different.
TB says buy them both and report back with video preferred
