Mesa/Boogie Club?

I got the Aggie GS112NT and the Powerhouse 1x12 at just about the same time while looking for a solid extension for the Walkabout.
So, I've had an even amount of time with both cabs. Lots of good advice and hands-on review here on TB for both of these cabs BTW.

The Aggie is ok sounding but it is tweeterless (NT) and so it does not offer the high end snap that either the Walkabout cab or the Powerhouse does. It has a much more "neutral" tone to it than the Powerhouse which has a pretty defined midrange to my ears. But, of course, this is very tweakable due to the Mesa player control thing which the Aggie lacks. The Aggie is generally muddier to my ears than any of the Mesa cabs I have (but again that is related to the lack of tweets and crossover).

In fairness, it does do basically what I wanted it for, which was to fill out the Walkabout sound for larger gigs w/o FOH. It's not a bad sounding cab to me, pretty old school tone (which is good in my view), but just not as flexible as the Mesa stuff for my needs. Example, the Aggie is a one trick box, whereas when I use 2 Mesa cabs (Walkabout plus the Powerhouse 1x12 or my new Scout 1x15) I can dial in a wide variety of cab crossover and horn levels. Its just more flexible and sounds better to my ears. As many have said here, I can see where the GS112NT would match up well as a small stack with a horn loaded GS112. Oh, and the Aggie is lighter than the Mesa if that matters to you, and it was cheaper.

I will say that after using both the GS112NT and the Powerhouse in rehearsal and on a number of gigs, the Aggie now stays home and will likely leave the family soon by way of the classifieds. When I get around to it ;)

I have a Walkabout Scout 12", so I guess I'm in.

I though about getting an 8ohm 12 in walkabout and getting a 15 raditor (8ohm) for bigger gigs. How does that combo of the 12 combo + 15 radiator sound??

Sign me up! Just got this 400+ less than a week ago and I am an overnight convert!

Clip from my recent post...

"Friday my new "ebay special" 400+ arrived and after fiddling with it for a couple hours Saturday during the day I just had to bring it out that night and give it a real breaking in.

In short, I am in love again. The 400+ sounded incredible through the NV610. There was depth behind the notes in the higher register. Warmth and definition! OMG. This is my gigging amp. I once owned a Vintage SVT that did one thing well. In fact better than any other amp can approach to this day, but now I know what they mean when Mesa owners say that the 400 has it's own sound - that is the sound that floats my boat. I could go on and on singing it's praises but I will restrain myself. The 400+/NV610 combination is lethal. Old-school warm tone that shakes the room without being boomy or out of control. Enough headroom for me here. No lie, this was totally unsolicited, while we were breaking down Saturday the drummer and both guitarists all complimented me on my sound and said that it sounded way better than the previous night. Even they noticed, wow!"

anyonefortennis The 12" combo and the Radiator 15" are incredibly fine sounding to my ears. BTW, mine are both 4 ohm loads so together they are only showing the Walkabout head a 2 ohm combined load. Mesa says as long as you don't push the master much over 50% it should be fine. So far, no problems at all.

I set the 12" controls to 4k crossover (sheen) and set the horn attenuator at about 11 (slight high cut). The 15 gets set at 5k (normal) and the horn atten. just a bit more cut than the 12. As you might guess I don't like a ton of snapping tweets in my tone.

The tone is huge with the added girth and grunt of the 15 and its larger passive radiator. Really does exactly what I was hoping it would do, add a LOT more air push/pants flap for bigger gigs and just fatten up the lows and low mids compared to the Scout all by its lonesome... which is saying something as the combo is no slouch in the lows end dept. I also pulled the Walkabout head and used the 15 by itself on a recent gig and really liked that as well. The Walkabout combo concept offers players a lot of possibilities in a small package for sure.

Thanks. It is an old Mesa case that they no longer make. (I called to see if they still were available and the guy I spoke to never even heard of them) I picked it up on ebay for a song. It weighs about 15 lbs empty. I carry it in one hand and lift it on the cab with both arms. No heavier than my DB750 or GBE1200 in a similar case.

Sorry about not getting numbers or anything started. We just lost 5 people at work and I've been pulling some long shifts as of lately.

Do you want me to assign numbers based on who posted first or by whoever messages me first asking for a number? Whenever I get a general consensus on that, I'll start issuing numbers to anyone who wants it.

As for the "Lefty Mesa Users Club", count me in on that one!
