I have a Mesa Fathom (into 2 Aguilar GS112s) and while I love the versatility, it doesn't sound as sweet to me as the Walkabout especially for the music I'm doing. I'd almost rather have that Walkabout but know I'd need a little more speaker to handle the jams.

how about a walkabout with an extension cab?

I would suggest getting the 4 ohm version and add another 4 ohm extension cab later. I've used 2, 4 ohm cabs before without any problems. So have several others on this forum. More juice both ways. Chef has had several posts about this same 4 ohm vs 2 ohm subject.

Have you tried 2 of the 2 12 cabs with a 4 12.
I did not like the 2 -12 but have not heard the 4 -12.
The Mesa rep in this area said that 2 of the 2-10 cabs doesn't sound as good as 1of the 4-10. I was wondering if that was the same with the 12s

I feel your pain. I'm running an M6 head and I've got a 212 that I haven't been in love with. I also have a 115 that was floating my boat. My guitarist just switched from a combo to a Marshall 1/2 stack and now he is pushing the limits of the 115 for clean phart-free power. The 115 and 212 don't play great together, but they are loud. I'm debating which to sell and which to double up on 2X212 or 2X115. I'm also considering the power of a 215 or a 412, as I'm willing to bet the bigger cabs sound better, despite the reduced portability. I've even been looking at a 610, but based on the way the 410 sounds I'm not sure that is what I want.

At rehearsal last night, I plugged into the 212 instead of the 115, which I usualy run. I found I liked it better in some ways, ways I hadn't noticed before my guitarist switched amps. I'm currently leaning toward a 2nd 212. Anyone here run 2X212s? How about some commentary on the 2X115 rig pictured above :bassist:

Well I have the Powerhouse 412 and a pair of Powerhouse 115 cabs side by side and have been comparing them as of late. The 2 mesa 115 cabs are actually more efficient then the 412 cab so they sound louder right off the bat when comparing them to the 412 cab.

The 115 stack is big round and warm but still has a reasonable amount of clarity and definition. the horns in the mesa cabs are outstanding and can be adjusted to provide just the right amount of sparkle or brightness desired. This little stack is loud!

The 412 is so nicely balanced in that you really hear the punch and tightness of 10's mixed with the roundness and deepness of 15 cabs but everything is even and balanced. Its such a beautiful sounding cab. I like both setups and would have a hard time choosing one over the other.

I think you called it. The 115 is certainly louder than the 212, which is why I was leaning to adding another 115. However, I think the 212 might sound better, and adding a 2nd one will make up for the volume difference for sure.

I dial the horns completely out, so that isn't an issue, but I do like being able to select the crossover and the presence of the horn.

Just tried my First M9 today and WHOA! Am I impressed! I owned a Bass 400+ years ago but never really liked it much. Probly because of the crappy cabinets I was running at the time. But this new M9 SMOKES! TONS of power, TONS of TONE! I havnt been this impressed with an amp since I first pluged into a Trace Elliot AH600SMX Back in the early 90's. This is now definately my next amp.
Now does anyone have any recommendations for cabinets?
I played thru a 4x10 and a 2x12 at GC. Which sounded HUGE! That might be fine there.
But I cant help but wonder what it would sound like wth 2 4x10's and 2 2x12's or maybe 2 of those 1200 cabinets.

Any thoughts from the Boogie boys?

I have tried the 4-10, 2-12, and 1-15. side by side and I liked the 4-10 the best. so I say 2 4-10s
but 2 1200s would be the ****.
For the last few days I have been running 2 4-10 cabs and 2 1-15. and it is way more than I will ever need but man is it awesome

Hi there,

As a Mesa 400+ owner, I'd like to use it with a powersoak/power attenuator for small venues where volume can be an issue for the band or the neighborhood although I'd like to hear the tube tone of the amp. I'm using a Mesa PH1000 4ohms or Mesa PH410 8 ohms as cabs.

Have you ever experiment such situation?

Any gear recommandation for the Mesa 400+ (300W), as most of the powersoak on the market only handle 100w or 150w max?

Sounds to me like he's looking for the behavior you get when you push the power section to the edge. That's a different sound than simply overdriving its input stage with the usual crank gain cut master thing.
