The Mesa 412 is more open and the Aggie 412 is more Mid focussed. Together they sound freaking killer! Mesa Bass gear has come a long way and getting better and better with age.

I just received the M9. The BB750 wasn't any louder than my Walkabout to my ears. and I'm working hard to develop a lighter touch and am craving headroom.

My initial impression is that playing an M9.......








is like having your very own dragon!

It weighs about 40 lbs in the headcase (er, dragon cage) and I will happily lug it anywhere a larger rig is desired. Preliminary bonding has been joyful and I do like the compressor-not as good as my outboard model but will do me fine for the couple of tunes I use it for. Excellent eq. I will play it with the full band tonight. Here are a couple of shots of my dragon rig and the walkabout:

Full band jam last night with the M9 through Epi 310/210. This is definitely a keeper. Feels like the amp equivalent of a muscle car. With gain at 2 o'clock and master at 9 I got a tad of tube drive and as much volume as my Walkabout dimed. Very good tone, although not "to die for" like the the Walkabout IMO. The compressor is perfectly adequate for my needs (I may now sell my FEA stompbox model). I have always liked graphic eq and love this feature. I know a watt is a watta dn I fully understand the difficulty of comparing volumes due to differing gain slopes, but through the 310 alone, this head sounds far louder than the virtually identically rated Shuttle 9. The drummer loved how easily he heard me through the M9. I definitely dig having my own dragon!

I am waiting (hoping) for Mesa to make my idea of the ultimate amp. M9 front ( tube driven compressor, eq) 12ax7's in the pre and 12 Kt-88's in the power! 600 watts of tube driven bliss!! Speakon's, tuner out, footswitchable compressor and eq in. I think it would rock.

Given the amount of speaker area, that must be a LOT of volume you're jamming. I've used the Walkabout into two 4 Ohm 2x15 cabs with an extremely loud band (metal, 2.5 Marshall 100w stacks, not a typo - five 4x12 cabs for two guitarists) and wasn't even diming my amp to be felt & heard.

Have fun with the "dragon", and wear earplugs !
