Mesa Boogie, Part 3

my old 62 P bass has rounds on it.. and i vary the setting on that.
I have Fender 9050s of the p bass.. it thumps you in the chest.... they have a brite top that gives a scooped sort of sound.. but fit in the mix pretty well... and needs Mids boosted
The Mpulse is Usually set with Input at 12 oclock, bass@12 or 1, Mids @ 2 or 3-ish and treb @12 to 2.... give or take with dif cabs i may haul.. Uber115s, or 810, my small bag end...
I really dig the sound of the Mpulse.. I only wish it had more headroom... at 4ohms it sounds great.. .

Yeah, I usually only play my M-pulse 600 thru a 4 ohm load - either a PH810 or PH215, and it has way more than I need thru either of those...

I took delivery of a used M-Pulse 600 from GC yesterday, and all I can say is...WOW! What a great sounding amp. I will not miss the M6 Carbine I recently sold. Kinda wish I had bought one of these to begin with. Not that there's anything 'wrong' with the M6, but this is just what I've been wanting from an amp - warm, dynamic, powerful, infinite eq-ability and with very managable size/weight. Can't wait to gig it this weekend :hyper:

Now to find a footcontroller and rack handles. The amp came in a Mesa headcase. What a piece of work that thing is. It might better be called an amp bunker ;)

Welcome to the world of mPulse time! Still my favorite Boogie bass amp of all time. Wish they still made them.

Thanks. It's good to have my finger(s) on the Pulse :D

I just called Mesa CS. They still have foot controllers, cables and rack handles for the later series M-Pulse available, so I placed an order for them. They're not exactly giving the foot controller away, but I'm sure it's worth it, as they seems to over-engineer their products. Sure would be nice to activate the Mute and Solo features from the front panel w/o the Foot Controller though.

I'm in Syracuse, also - I rigged up a push button on my SKB rack for a mute function, and it works great... If you need help with anything like that, PM me and I'll hook you up - you can see the button above the lit X in the upper left corner of the rack:

Ohhh yeah. I see what you did. Very clever. I have some push-button & toggle switches, wire and 1/4" jacks in my parts box. I may use your idea and rig that up in my rack for when I don't want carry the foot controller around. Thanks for sharing your inventiveness.

They definitely are night and day differences! For what I'm "hearing" in my head nowadays I prefer the M6 (I'm trying to source a new one as we speak) but I've had 3, maybe 4 M-P600's? I actually bought the first one ever sold in Austin TX when they were released in what, '02 or '03 from the ATX GC. I traded my M2000 + cash for it and had it for years and years. I took it straight from the store, opened the box in my truck, plugged it in and did a 4 hour gig with it with no testing or practicing. It just sounded that good.

Definitely a rounder, more warm and organic sound. If I could ever justify having 2 amps at once, it would be the M6 and M-P600 no doubt. About my favorite rig was a Modulus Q5+M-P600+SWR Henry 8x8. Used it on a country gig and man on man was that sweet. We used IEM's and the DI on the 600 sounds stellar. Enjoy! :hyper::bassist:

No prob - I'm glad to help... As I said, let me know if you need any help with it - I have my M-p 600's footswitch, but really prefer not to have anything on the floor at gigs... Here's a couple of better pics, front and back:

I LOVE the M6 and M9... I just picked up an Mpulse600 too.. Incredible amp...
Fat, warm, juicy.. I used it on a record that i am doing now. Teh producer loved it mic'd up.. Sounds like a 600 watt B15.. which is a great thing!.. Real organic.. .I tell everyone it is maybe the most Tooobey sounding non tube amp... The 2 12ax7s.. are in the right spot...

I recorded a 5 song EP with an M-Pulse 600 through a Mesa PH115 and was using a fretless Modulus Q5 at the time. It sounded pretty amazing. We threw a 421 in front with a DI and talk about sweetness...

Well said! the mPulse 600 is the most "tubey" sounding non-tube amp I've ever heard... That fat, warm, slightly compressed sound we love...coupled with a well-designed and very versatile EQ system, a beautiful-sounding compressor and enough power for nearly every gig - and you've got a classic amp. I just wonder why the hell Mesa Boogie stopped making them!

Just a guess, but their other amps were probably more profitable to make, given the M-p 600's feature set - I know I'm keeping mine... Also - the Streamliner 900 does the tube thing atleast as well as the M-p 600, with a better DI, but doesn't have nearly as many bells and whistles...

I had a purple face MP600 years ago. that i sold. And i regretted selling it for a while .. Than a few months ago i was on the hunt, and found a real nice one with Speakon connectors... I need to not sell this one.. Its is the Ultimate Blues gig amp. Not that i do many blues gigs. BUT, it does that compression thing so well... so much like an old tube amp... And through my ampeg 810 cab, its nuts.. Loud and punchy... and warm... One of teh best amps that i have ever played.
I rarely ever use the Para eq, only the three Bass, Mid , Treb knobs,, I only wish that i could find a newer footswitch with the MUTE button on it since mine has teh Newer 7 pin DIN to accommodate that.
