Mesa Boogie, Part 3

Indeed. From my old Mesa price sheets stashed away, I think the deep option came out in '95 IIR. I didn't see many back then.

I just know because my trusty old Diesel 410 is the "Deep" version. I still love its tone, but I do not miss lugging that 120 lb monster around!

Hi,

Need advice from mesa experts. I have the opportunity to get a Buster head for a fair price locally. I used to have a Walkabout that I miss and I loved the overdrive of that amp. I can't find any convincing sound demo of the buster.

How do they compare in sound, especially overdrive. Also was wondering how the buster compare to the new d800.

Thanks

As Chef said, do read the Buster thread. I have not played through a Walkabout personally, but I have owned a Buster, and it does clean tones very well. I could not coax much, if any, OD out of mine.

It is a loud little monster though, and likes cabs - the more cabs you run it through, the more volume you get - like the 400. But a 400 it is not; not sure how to explain it, but the 400 is more easily agitated. It has a shorter fuse, and starts adding harmonics to the sound sooner than the Buster (that 'angry' sound as I call it when cranked to max volume - it's glorious!)

But take the time to explore the thread and read what others have done with tubes and such, and for the right price you could experiment with it for a while and then flip it on TB with no loss or even some profit.

I had the wedge combo but a head I might consider if the opportunity presented itself. I use pedals for any dirt that I need as playing the 400 in the 'angry' zone starts an uncontrollable volume war on stage. :D

This thread needs more pics! :bassist:
