Mesa-Boogie STUPID price control. I am mad!

The same shop I mentioned has both a M6 and a M9. Mark is truly a stand up guy. Like I said, I root for (and purchase from) the small independent dealer whenever possible. I bought my 412 from him 2 weeks ago.

I agree to support the little guys and I usually do whenever possible. In fact I located several M9's at smaller stores, but I decided to wait on a fresh one in the box for a couple of reasons. 1) The smaller stores usually had their M9 on the showroom floor and therefore was a demo and 2) I read a couple of instances where M9's broke down and was hoping that maybe a newer one would have any issues addressed if there were any.

I'm very anxious to get my hands on the M9 and was very tempted to order from a smaller shop. If there was one locally it would probably be in my house right now.

Yep, again, don't want to pay full price on a floor model, therefore used.

Yeah, if I needed anything else this could be done.

I bought floor model stuff from GC before with huge discounts.

This is not about GC, is about Mesa policy prohibiting to discount their products even if they are not new (for new I mean unused, in box).

Imagine an auto dealer with a floor model with miles on it, some scratches and dirty interior... Being sold for full price! Who would buy that?

The fact is that all Mesa stuff on GC is just like that. They would discount, but they can't.
Dude thats not Mesa's fault. Its GC's fault for using a $1500 amp as a demo model in a 15 year old Romper room. Using your car analogy, if the dealership let 16 year olds joy ride in them and then tried to sell them at full price who's fault would it be?

Keep the good stuff in a "adults only" room and that way it says pristine, yet you can still demo stuff.

Uh... what?

So if I want to try out an amp I have to guess if they have it and ask? That doesn't make any sense. Honestly, I think I played about 20 different amps before settling on the one I have now, and I ordered it online for the reason that I didn't want a "used" one. And even if there was an "adults room", which is a stupid idea on many levels, after someone played it, wouldn't it be "used"?

:scowl:

Establishing a minimum price for your own merchandise is not price fixing.

Tell that to Levis, they paid big for price fixing. You can set a "Suggest MSRP" but not the out the door price. Maybe that applies to everyone Except Mesa or the MI industry (this I doubt, Mesa has just not been called on it).

To be "Used" it would have to be sold to an end user. It could remain new with a thousand hours of use so long as it was never sold to a end user.;)

More or less....yup. Having a $1500 amp lying around for every kid to manhandle is the way to guarantee that you'll have someone refusing to purchase your "used" amp. You'll then have to discount the "demo" and order another....that gets manhandled by kids and has to be eventually discounted as well.

I bought my fist head and cabinet in 1995 off the floor. They were well-taken care off.

A store around KY doesn't have any power/speaker/instrument cords laying around. You have to ask for one so they know who's got their hands on what. Thinking about it, i've never seen a younger person in there, and there is never any low-mid level equipment in there either.

I talked to my local music store owner when I decided to get a Walkabout Scout. He told me what everyone on this thread has said, that Mesa/Boogie keeps dealers on a tight leash, and that he didn't carry the brand because he couldn't afford their minimum inventory for an area where he'd sell maybe two a year.

I ended up going to the Guitar and Banjo in Beaumont, where they sold me a floor demo 1x15 with a mark on the nice white vinyl for list price -- but I traded in my old amp, so I'm not complaining.

M/B just ain't about instant gratification. So far I've been extremely impressed with my amp, from the classy touches like a Velcro tie for the power cord and the heavy-duty plastic case for the manual and other documentation, to the killer tone and the good looks. I don't expect to buy another bass amp.

And, as another local Walkabout owner told me, "You get what you pay for. Not only that, but a lot of times you pay for something you don't get." Wise words. "Bang for the buck" usually means, "I got it cheap, so I guess I'm happy with it." I think my Mesa/Boogie was a bargain. It's better than I could have gotten, for more money, from other manufacturers.

Put another way, I could have had something cheaper, or sooner -- I sold my Les Paul gold top to finance it -- but then I wouldn't have what I've got.

I was going to order an M6 until I realized that our local dealer had 2 on back order since last June! I found an M9 at another location that had been rented out, had sticky goo spilled all over it, no box or manual and the salesman was insistent that it would sell for the full new price. I pretty much laughed out loud. No one should pay full price for an amp in that condition.

I ended up finding another one at yet another location of the same store. This one was a floor model but when I saw it in person, it was clearly in perfect new condition with no marks, fingerprints etc on it. The salesman informed me that it was store policy to throw away boxes and packaging but he had the manual foot switch etc. i was happy tp buy this amp as a "new" amp because even though I would have preferred a new in the box unit, I had no other choice. These Carbines are so hard to find around here.

Turns out, when I got to the counter with it, the salesman knocked $100 off the price as he found a tiny scratch on the top of the amp. I was quite happy with that and promptly spent the savings on a Gator rack case, so in the end, you could say the amp was discounted or, I got a rack case for free.

best amp I ever owned and would have gladly paid the full price. Funny how I got a discount on a fresh new amp while the salesperson from the other location of the same store wouldn't budge on a beat up rental amp.
