Wow - Are you serious?? I honestly don't know a thing about Behringer , but you'd think it would be the other way around as far as copying someone goes. What Behringer head was supposedly ripped off (Do they make more than one head for that matter? I know nothing about them as I stated before)??
MESA makes killer amps , I can't imagine why they would have to rip someone off - especially on purpose. I'd love to hear more about this if this is true.

Im a bit of a Mesa fan boy and own the M9, walkabout, and the Titan and I love them all. Im still unsure why the Titan didnt get more love. They're all great, but if I had to choose one, it would be the Titan. Just adjusting the passsive mids and gain makes that amp change character more than anything Ive ever played, even without touching the OD!
I was playing my wenge MTD (which I would never call a thick bass) and could switch between high fi smooth jazz on one channel to what I would call an almost perfect Aguilar db750 rock tone (slighly wooly and grindy but immediate and articulate) with the step of a button. Plus this thing sounds great through any cab I've pushed it through, from Berg 215 to Mesa 212! If you find one, BUY IT!
Just giving the Titan some props on the eve of a new year!

Can somebody describe the clean tone of the Titan compare to other Mesa head?

Some of you own quite a few Mesa heads. Does the Titan have a unique sound, or is it mainly because of the extra power? I am mainly concern about the clean tone.

I have an M9 and am considering a switch to the Titan. I want to know if the Titan (when clean) can get reasonably close to the tone of an M9. I already know that the M9, by itself, can't go the other way.

Another option I may consider is to get a OD FX for the M9. Any comment welcome, thx.

I'm still waiting for my PH412 cab to arrive at the music store so I can take my 4 hour (one way) trip to the music store to get that and the new Silverfaced Titan that they are going to let me use until my new Blackfaced Titan is done being produced on the last production run. Once my Blackfaced Titan is finished being made the music store that I deal with in Milwaukee will have a Silverfaced Titan for sale if anyone is looking for one. I'll only have to use it for one gig by the time I make another trip down to get my Blackfaced Titan. I'm sure the store will give a good price on the Silverface - if anyone is having a hard time locating a Titan send me a PM and I'll hook you up on how to contact the music store. I was told that the Silverfaced is brand new and still in the box. Happy New Year fellow Mesa (Titan) users! --- Pedulla-Player

I just got word that the PH412 finally arrived! :hyper: I'm going down this Saturday to pick up the cab and the Silverfaced Titan for now until my Blackfaced Titan is finished in the final production run. :crying: Darn lawsuit with Behringer - Lol ~ JK!! ;)

GAS got the best of me. I ordered a V2 Titan yesterday from Mesa in Hollywood. I guess it was the last one they had boxed and ready to go. It's the blackfaced version. Super excited to try it out. Funny thing Pedulla-Player I was down at Interstate music in New Berlin on Friday and I checked out the Silverfaced Titan that you are picking up. I ended up buying a ph1200 cab. Have an M9 coming tomorrow I'm going to A/B them. Probably keep 'em both. The M9 I got off ebay.

Don't be afraid to buy used MESA gear thanks to the wonderful 5 year warranty. If the seller gives you the original receipts the warranty is valid from the date of sale. Otherwise MESA will happily use the factory ship date based on the serial number. The service and warranty is one of the great things about their products. Locally we have two authorized independent service shops so I wouldn't even have to ship it back to Cali.

The Titan has a wonderful clean tone in my opinion. Slightly warmer than the carbine but clean. That amps secret power is the passive mid control which really changes the character of the amp in conjunction with the gain. On my channel one, gain at noon, mids at noon, active mids slightly dropped at 1200 clean, warm, slightly scooped. Channel two im running the gain slightly boosted past noon, passive mids bumped to 2 oclock, active mids at 200 at one oclock and the rest of the settings fairly identical and its a different amp. Grindy rock tone. Theres alot of variety in there jst waiting to be found. If I could keep only one head it would be the titan as it can approximate the db750, and carbine pretty closely.

I just got my new Mesa rig yesterday even though the silverfaced Titan is on loan until my Blackfaced is finished in the final production run. OMG - What a killer sounding rig!! I only had time to mess around with it about a half an hour , but the sounds that I was able to produce were mind boggling.
Honestly I was a little worried when I first started playing through the rig because there was a vibration coming from the cabinet for the first ten minutes , but it went away and didn't come back - even at higher volumes. Did the speakers / cabinet need to get broken in or what?? After the vibration went away the rig sounded absolutely amazing! I know that I was going to initially get a Berg NV412 , but I can't imagine that it would sound any better than the PH412 does through this head.

The Titan is such an incredible head - Why in the world would they discontinue it?? I wish a Mesa represenative would chime in on this thread and tell us the reason.

Even though the rig already sounds awesome - does anyone with some time under their belt with the Titan have a few pointers for a Titan newby - especially since I never had an amplifier with OD before. Thanks again!
I'll keep everyone up to date on what my bandmates think of my new Mesa rig and the responses that I get from people at gigs.
A premature thanks to anyone who gives me some pointers on getting the most out of my Titan's sound.:cool:

Pedulla-Player, Awesome news on the new rig! Glad to hear you like it! I ordered one yesterday from Mesa in Hollywood. I have a question for you about the foot controller that comes with the V2 Titan. Does it have a mute on it? I wasn't able to find any images of the foot controller, even at the Mesa site.

That is good to hear. Funny I was down at Interstate Friday. Checked out the Silverface Titan (didn't play it) I was running an M9 through various cabs as I've already picked up an M9 on ebay (it arrives tomorrow). I got the PH1200. I thought it sounded incredible. So, I guess I'll have an M9 and a Titan. Could be worse. ;)

I just got my Titan back last week, it had a protection circuit turning the amp off for no reason...I also got it back in the summer after it had overheated, it being the older silver faced model it got brought up to code with the 2nd fan and what not. Mesa of course paid for the shipping and didnt charge me a thing for both as its under warranty. Now that its working again its great. I also have the PH412 which sounds awesome. Just hope theres no more troubles.

The non overdriven portion of the amp is pretty standard stuff. Just note the passive mid and the treble work a little differently than you might expect. When dialing in your clean sound my suggestion is to set both channels the sound identical using the footswitch. Then set the gain and EQ on Channel A to the point where you think it sounds good, then A-B the two channels to see which you like better. You can keep doing the A-B until you dial in a happy sound. Then try dinking with Channel B and keep A-B'ing until you have a happy sound on B. I personally use B purely for heavy overdrive and leave A as my clean as I don't use the factory footswitch and instead switch channels using the Amp Ctrl jack on my BOSS GT-10B.

For the overdrive portion it's a whole different beast if you've never played with tubes before. Once in overdrive you can push a boosted signal to drive even more crunch, but not a lot more volume, out of the sound. Similarly, you'll find your volume and tone knobs on your instrument have a significant effect on the overdrive sound that comes out of the amp. Try playing your bass with the volume rolled off a bit, that leaves you room for a little boost right on the bass if that's to your liking. If you are an effect user, try pushing your effects into both clean and overdrive, you'll find some sound better or at least pleasantly different when pushed into the overdrive sound, for example synth effects and wahs/filters. Also, you might find some effects get eaten or sound poor into the overdrive since the amp's tube overdrive is now at the end of your chain.
