.....well, the amp sounds weird. Even at low volume it sounds a bit distorded.

This is why factory authorized service is recommended, since we do not know conclusively what the history of your amp really is. Just use your backup amp for today's gig.

Instead of drilling holes, i opted for a clip-on fan and aimed it towards the back of my amp. It doesnt even get close to hot now.

I've done this with all my amps including the Titan and have never had an issue.

Whenever adding an external fan, be sure it is blowing in the same direction as the internal fan or you can reduce the airflow, causing bigger problems.

Great inputs from you too.
However my amp might not be too much damaged. It could be some "phasing" issues as I've noticed the speakers are actually being pushed inside the cab instead of outside. See what I mean?
Anyway,tomorrow the amp will be at a qualified repair shop.

Speakers must move both in and out, centered at rest.

Sure they do. But it seems like they tend to move inside only. I can see a difference in the movement of the speakers of both cabs.

I think I posted on this issue years ago, but my Titan shut down once when I had it in a tightly enclosed Rack. The Titan manual says specifically that this amp needs more room to breathe or it will overheat, so either give it more room in your rack or take it out of your rack, or as it starts to overheat it will shut down as an auto protective function so the amp won't be damaged by excessive heat. See the manual or contact Mesa about specifics. I leave about a 1 1/2 Inch gap between the top of my titan and the top of the Rack...no more shutdown.

IT SEEMS I recall (or maybe I'm hallucinating-LOL), that there is a reset button on the Titan after you overheat it that you push in on the back...again refer to the manual for specs...but I'm pretty sure that will bring your amp back to life!!!

I think you are unfortunately hallucinating
I've checked the manual and never seen such a button.

There have been a few updates over the years to keep the Titan amps out in the wild running smoothly. I have had 4, and am now down to 2. They have been fully serviced, and brought "up to date" so to speak. I love them, and run each 1 into it's own PH4x12...one overdriven to the point of distortion, with the bass turned down quite a bit, and the other one EQ'd clean, round, fat, and, and with more bass. It is huge, and nothing on this planet sounds anything like it. I run an ABY box and both foot pedals, so that I can have every possible combination of amps in or out of the mix, and either boosted, or switched to a different preamp.
It is absolute overkill, and I am fully aware of it

YES, I played, and will continue to play gigs where that much amp is perfect.

I have been a mesa fanboy since about 2000...BUT I'm not sure I would run this rig wide open without sending the heads back for whatever "updating" they do, and I think mine have both been back for the updates 3x's each (could be 2...I have sent some other things in for adjustments, too)

Mine have never failed me, since the first run of the black-fronted version shut down on me with fried mos-fets. Mesa made that right, of course, because they have the best CS in the industry. I HIGHLY recommend calling the guys at the shop, if you bought one of the 2nd hand, to check against the serial numbers they have, to see if yours has been updated.


I love mine, and have said repeatedly that I will never sell mine. Now, who knows, with the Subway d800 being so awesome for my needs, I MIGHT be talked out of a Titan (or 2) and a cabinet (or 2). BUT IT WOULD NOT BE CHEAP, because they have been updated to the hilt, and as much as they will ever be, as I understand it.
