Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Correct, though I think replacement drivers are only available in 8 ohms because a single 4 ohm 12" driver was too vulnerable to damage from overpowering as amp power has increased. Also, the sensitivity of the new 8 ohm driver is higher, making it a better choice all around

I had both a 4ohm stock speaker and a same-era 8ohm replacement in my old Scout 12. The 4ohm was an Eminence Deltalite (I) 2512 (with the tell-tale see-through dustcap) and the 8ohm was a Deltalite II 2512 (with the solid-black dustcap). The Deltalite II came as an 8ohm from Eminence and had both better power-handling and better bass-response on paper (and as I recall in practice as well) than the Deltalite (I) even as the 4ohm was able to squeeze more juice out of the amp.

So help me out guys.

I am thinking of letting my Walkabout stack go. No real reason other than this is what I do. I play gear for a while and them move it on. It is an j credible rig, it I'm wanting to go all tubes again.

Anyway..... I have no idea what the while rig is worth. A 15" stack of any kind is hard to come by right now. And it's a rare color combination. But it's certainly not a collector piece. The head was recently given the once over by the factory techs at Mesa. I have the covers for everything.

I don't know. Whataya think? These are tiny crappy pics. Sorry.

Any clue what the stack is worth?

I like the Mesa X ATS class D walkabout - for some context for our US based readers:
ATS designs some very high end Italian gear
And Mesa stuff is very very expensive to repair in Europe. I just had to have the transformer replaced on my walkabout (primary winding burnt out - the oh to common fault with these amps :( ) and it was on the verge of being cheaper to buy another one secondhand to rob the parts. If the FETs had gone too it would be utterly uneconomical to do anything than sling the thing in the bin - which is sad.

I hate to be pessimistic, but from my experience it’s tough to sell cabs regardless of condition, rarity, etc, without taking a bath on them. Hopefully you bought used to begin with and got a good deal.

I would try to sell local first, otherwise shipping will eat you up.

Unless someone is dying for that color combo it is unlikely to draw a premium.

It is hard to tell condition from the pics you posted, but they look like they have some road-wear (worn leather corners and handles, maybe a few knicks & scars in the red covering, etc).

I assume the amp is good order; the recent servicing might help assure a buyer but probably doesn’t add value.

My guess is you could possibly get something in the $1000-$1250 range, if you found the right buyer.

Thanks for your input! It seems a lot of guys are asking a little much for them. Several stacks both 15 and 12 inch have listed for $1600-$1800. They sat a while but sold.

My initial gut was somewhere between their optimistic pricing and your pessimistic pricing. (I'm not ragging on you. Again, I really appreciate your thoughts.) Somewhere around $1400 +/- for the stack was what I was thinking. But I'll hold out for some more input before I post them either locally or here. I have a few guys here who have expressed interest via PM so I will contact them first.

@two fingers

FWIW, I sold this rig (locally) for $1400, including the pair of cabs, the amp, and the headcase, along with the speaker wires and connectors:

I basically converted it into the single Scout 15 combo I gig with nowadays. (and pocketed the change... at least until I found something else bass-related to blow it on! :roflmao:)

It's worth holding on to.

I think $1400 could happen if you find the right local buyer, simply because you have the custom colors and all of these are now out of production. I don't doubt I could sell them in LA for that price, but there are tons of musician around here! I've bought and sold a few Walkabouts and combo cabs now in the $500 apiece shipped range but that was before they went out of production and they were all older standard models...

Dude. Listen to your grandmother. ;)

Any of you WA users run a 2x12 + 1x12 cab rig ?
I have a Berg CN212 and am thinking of adding a CN112 (or HDN112) to get more drivers working with the WA's available wattage. I really love Jim's cabs and they work so well with any amp I have ever thrown at them that I am inclined to stay in the Berg camp.

I know we preach using more drivers, and more efficient drivers, to get the most out of this wonderful amp, and I have used it with great results through my 4ohm NV610 ... but that's a lot of cab to haul around regularly. So I was thinking the 4ohm 2x12+ 8ohm 1x12 running @ 2.67 might get the WA out on stage a bit more.

I guess we would be looking at all three drivers getting hit with the same amount of power given the 4ohm CN212 probably sports 2 8ohm drivers .. right ?
so I would not be dealing with a power mismatch between the cabs.
I seem to recall that the WA will put out 350-400(ish) watts at 2.67 (possibly a bit more) so I at full tilt I would be hitting each driver with about 100-130w (I think).

let me know your thoughts please.
thanks

The best sounding rig I ever owned was a Walkabout head into a 312 stack (Genz Benz Neox 212/112) at 2.7 Ohms. Total and complete sonic glory.....but I am just not willing to haul that much box around. I repeat, it was my favorite setup ever, period. More than loud enough......with the same (too) loud band for which the 212 alone under the Walkabout was not enough........ Go for it!
