Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

The DeltaLite 2512 is the closest option to the original driver. The 8 ohm DeltaLite 2512 may actually work better than the original 4 ohm driver for many applications and may be more reliable too.

Pretty exciting day. Traded a newer Aguilar rig for the Walkabout Scout 12. I'm ready for a honeymoon.

Thank you. I think that I have to buy it then :)
great idea!
As a huge long time fan of the Walkabout, I'd have to say that the WA cab, or even the non combo Scout cabs (of which I owned a couple over the years) are not the real magic of the Walkabout. It's the amp that's the stand-out ... at least IMO/IME. The combo is cool in its own right, but the Walkabout head sounds so great through any number of cabs and combinations that its really worth trying it through as many as you have access to. Personally I have found tonal bliss with the outstanding Bergantino NV212t .. sealed 2x12 cab, but my Walkabout has also crushed it through many other cabs.

enjoy!

This is good to know. I push my WA 112 speaker pretty hard and so I imagine if anything wears out first on this mighty little combo it's likely the speaker.

Follow up and also a quick re-post coming from a different Walkabout thread… just replaced an old and tired and noisy fan and also the tubes. I used the Tube Store selected series 12AX7 for both positions. I have used the selected series alternatives many times before in other amps with great success. For the fan, I used Mesa’s stock replacement (and my friend’s soldering skills). I love this amp (head/combo Scout 12”)!!!

So as a Walkabout fan you have a loud, unmusical whine that takes over a quiet room?
Ba-dum-pa, just kidding folks...But when Walkabouts were available I loved their tone but the fans made them useless for situations where I needed an amp of its size, weight, and wattage.
I’ve been using mine in all sorts of applications for 15 years and the fan has never been a deal-breaker. Then again I’d never mic a Scout cab with the amp in it in a studio. I have miced other cabs with my Walkabout in a studio and never had an issue. A longer speaker cable and putting the amp a distance away would take care of any issue I could imagine

it's all good man, if it didn't work for you then it didn't. But my experience matches sunbeast's. My WA spent tons of time in a number of studios here on the west coast and in the Chicago area and there was never an issue with the fan. Mine was pretty much inaudible beyond 12 inches from the back of the unit and the the noise of the guitar players Twin on idle was far louder. But, also like sunbeast, I mostly just used the WA DI when I recorded with it. Once we did mic the cab, but the cab was placed away from the amp.

As far as live work goes, the WA fan was a total non issue. Now my SVT 6pro did sound like a 747 at full throttle when it got good and warmed up, but the Walkabout just made my live gigging tone jump! ... still does in fact. If I have a choice, and when it fits the gig, I always go with the WA.

great singer, great guitarist

Question about the Walkabout manual… in the Mesa website, the only manual appears to be for v1 with the non-linear mid EQ ranges. Does any one have a PDF manual for the subsequent versions that have the more linear mid EQ ranges? Curious if the manual were edited after v1. Thanks!

Could you please clarify re: EQ?
