And in part, yes, that is kind of how I justify (or attempt to justify) having all that gear. It really is helpful when reviewing new gear to have some relevant references.

The only amp brands I can think of that are missing are vintage Marshall and Sunn tube heads. The fact that I thought of two is a clear sign that I spend way too much time on TB.

I have gear that I've held on to as a reference while I search for [insert elusive quality here]... I don't think I've managed the accumulation very gracefully, though (nor documented the different pieces as well as you have).

What do I need to hook up 2 Walkabout combo together. I first link the Master FX SEND to the Slave FX return, but soon discover it disable the Master amp. DUH. So I need something looping back to my Master FX return.

I found this LEHLE P SPLIT, PSplitIII--lehle-p-split-iii, I guess it will be the most straight forward solution.

But can I use a DI box instead? Using the THRU to loopback to the Master FX return and a XLR to 1/4 jack to the Slave FX return. Will the levels, Impedance, ..., coming out of the XLR alright in that situation.
I would rather have a JDI in my arsenal than the PSplit. Thanks

@gillento . Can you expand on Versatile; in which situation? I don't play guitar, I have a simple setup (bass = > light OD => AMP), I do 3-4 show/year, sometimes FOH.

I believe with the JDI you would lose signal on the DI’d output as it likely uses a step-down transformer and may even display some saturation of the tone at that signal level. The P-Split I presume is more purpose-built for this job. I think an active buffered splitter would probably be the best bet if you want to use a box though.
Why not just use the DI out of the first amp with an XLR to 1/4” cable to the FX Return of the 2nd? I am pretty sure the DI output comes after the FX loop, so you’d still be able to use the DI on the 2nd amp for normal purposes and you’d be able to use the DI Level control on the first amp to control the level so you could do most adjustments on a single amp ( I haven’t tried this, but it should work if I understand the signal path correctly).

Iirc, the earliest version may be wired so the effects send defeats the return, so a custom cable is necessary. PM me and I can provide the info.

Something like a Morley ABY box (or anyone's ABY box) should work. Beyond that an effects pedal with dry and effect outs (like a chorus) Behringer UC200 Ultra Chorus Pedal should work too. I've not tried either, but logically, either one makes sense.

I use it on my pedal board, in live situations for splitting signals between monitors, eliminating ground loop hum, ....
As for the JDI, it is a great passive DI! But I am not sure about ground loops when using a XLR to 1/4" (ts or trs?) cable...

Maybe.

Note that passive DIs won’t work due to the lower output level.

Generally, passive transformer splits work fine for active basses but may drop the load impedance a passive bass sees to below what is optimum and impact the tone.

Any passive splitter is fundamentally going to have some losses, whether it's the Lehle or a JDI- though in this application that may not matter all that much I guess.

IIRC, the DI on the Walkabout comes after both of the tubes in the circuit while the FX loop comes before the second tube, so the second amp might see a somewhat different signal as a result. I had two Walkabouts at the same time for awhile a long time back, but only ever ran them together both from their inputs at that time (and only a few times at that). I have used the DI output of my current Walkabout to drive the FX return of larger amps before and it is the closest I've gotten to a "more powerful Walkabout" sound thus far.

My understanding was that the DI came after both tubes, so if one was to use the DI from amp 1 to feed amp 2 then the second amp would actually have 3 tubes in the circuit. I defer to your knowledge on that though!
