Oh yeah, totally agree, that thing slams.
Would be an interesting combo, very different from the mosfet WA power section.
It can but part of the Walkabouts tuby sweetness seems to be the power supply sagging and the mosfet poweramp. They give it some added tube amp like feel. That feeling isn't transposed when using another high power amp. IMO it still sounds great into my Peavey IPR3000 into a pair of cabs but it is different than running the heads power amp. Especially when I run it at 2 ohms into my two 4 ohm Epifani UL 410 cabs! Good god the 3D sound and feeling I get with that is pure magic.
Yes, but most power amps are designed not to give any mojo. The Walkabout and the 1001RB power sections are both designed to give the tone some color.
The reason I asked is that I figured, if you slave another amp to the WA, you'd still be using the WA's power section, boosted by the slaved amp. It sounds like the slaved amp's monolithic sound will over-power the WA's sound. Bummer.
You have me thinking though. You could hook up a Walkabout output into a power soak and a speaker level DI box and run that to a power amp. That would capture the WA power amp characteristics. Albeit rather cumbersome....

I've been following this conversation for a while... Here's my question: if you want more WA tone wouldn't mic-ing the cab through the Pa be the easiest solution?
I guess the mic choice/positioning /pa quality etc would also colour the sound...

That would be what most folks do if they really wanted the full Walkabout sound out front. Personally I love the DI spun of the WA and don't have any issues with using that for FOH.
The problem with the WA's output power is that when paired with a loud drummer on a large stage it can sometimes not have enough volume through even a very efficient 410 cab. Or if it's a smaller venue and the PA doesn't have subs, and is typically dedicated to vocals only, the WA can fall a little short with single cabs. (212, 115, 410's ect). Now if you do like they did in the 70's and use more speaker area to be heard, the Walkabout is simply great! I've been recently running it down to 2 ohms into two Epifani UL410's and it has no problem being heard with any drummer.

I run a 2x12 and a 1x15 (each 8 ohms), and don't have volume/hesadroom issues. Admittedly we're playing christmas parties, bars and legions so our volume is capped somewhat.
We historically have used our own pa (we don't gig more than a couple-three times a year). I think I'm going to start lobbying for a big bass-bin for our pa...

Not so much. The vast majority of power amplifiers are specifically designed not to color the sound that goes through them.
This stands in contrast to a lot of high powered, old school, lead sled bass amps. They, by design or by accident, did color the sound a lot in the power section.
I figure that if you have a high powered bass amp you like the tone of, running the Walkabout DI out into the other amps effects return could give you two great sounds that sound great together.
Yup! I have a 4 ohm one. The WA sounds great with just about any cab but that Berg really tightens up the low end nicely!

I have two WA Scout 12s and two Berg 12s. The Scouts sound a lot grittier and the low end has more grind to it. The Bergs are much cleaner with the WA and the sound is very tight and hi-fi. I love tbe Scouts for playing punk and metal. The Bergs are great for fretless.
I just picked up a brown face that came with a great padded case for $370. Considering the length of thread this amp has, I can't wait to hear it. I have a Berg HD212 and since the drummers I play with can control themselves, I'm hoping it'll work out. Tomorrow , I'll hear how it sounds.
I just got my Walkabout. Now i understand the whole rave! This has to be the closest thing i have ever heard from an SS or hybrid to get a Tube sound! I have had various heads but none has the "bouncing/pillowing" sound to each note as this head has. And have tried various. The only head i can imagine having this close to tube would be the Aguilar DB750/1 but it weighs as a tube amp. Also i have a Mpulse 360. I clearly understand why people having both states they sound different. Altought both have the Warm sound the WA has the "bouncing/pillowing sound the Mpulse 360 lacks. Running with a Bergs HT210 it just sounds stellar!
Spot on. You're right also that it sounds great with Berg cabs. .. But this is one amp that sounds stellar with every cab I've tried it thru.

Like the WA the Bergs are in their own league i suppose. I kept mine having 3 more from different brands

I pair my Walkabout head with a Berg EX 112 and HT112 for a lot of my gigs...killer combination. For very small rooms, I occasionally use the Walkabout with a Berg HT210....nice tight sound.
