very cool... do you know if you can just order the custom grills on their own and swap em out yourself? and out of curiosity, how much were the grills?
i asked about custom colored tolex when i was at the store, and the cost seemed prohibitively high. a simple grill swap shouldn't be nearly as bad, i'd imagine (ok, i mean HOPE).
I know how ya feel. KJUNG mentioned that the LMII > AE212 wasn't a great 'match-up' & I think- as usual- he's right
I mean I've used the LMII MANY times & been happy with it. BUT I DO agree- the Walkabout is in another class!!!
Must try the LMII with another cab soon. It IS hard NOT to use the WA tho.
SUCH a sweet li'l amp!I reckon I MIGHT just hang onto the LMII- just SO E-Z to have in the car as a good back up. DAMN I'd hate to have to go thru the monitors (at 90% of our gigs at least) as my ONLY Bass sound.
You can order grilles (or any parts). Supposedly Mesa prices are going up 1/1/11. IIRC 2010 prices: custom tolex is 150 upcharge per item and the wheat grille color is no upcharge, but a wicker grille IS and upcharge (150).
Well I just paid $1299 for my walkabout 12" yesterday and the guy at Guitar Center was confused when he rang me up, as the price came up as $1449 ... he said the price increase must have just come in... the price tag was out of date.. so I made out, since they NEVER discount these..
then that might be what he saw... I didn't realize they had a color upgrade charge.. thanks.

My own personal experience was, i bought the combo this summer from gguitars in new haven ct. started checking out the design gallery on the mesa website and decided she needed alittle face lift. i got the gold grill from mesa directly for, i don't remember how much exactly, it was expensive though, in the $150 range. when i ordered the extension cabinet from gguitars i specified the gold grill, and that grill ended up being about half the price. not sure if its really worth it, but i'm happy.
mesa also talked gguitars into talking me into replacing the speaker in the combo with an 8 ohm. i really wanted to just try out the 2 ohm load, after what i've read here, but i gave in and got the new speaker. so, i was toying with the idea of ordering a custom combo cab, with no speaker or head. and just use the 4 ohm speaker for that and swap the head in and out of the two rigs. does that make sense?? i had it all picked out, gguitars was getting a quote from mesa, but now i have a baby on the way, so no new amps for me.........
and yes swapping grills and even speakers out yourself is super easy.
i wanted to replicate something like this in scout form..........

Probably "because they can" but it's also true that both the head and cab are overbuilt and ooze quality IMHO.
Berg HT322 (1x12, 2x10, + horn)
EV TL606 (1x15)
EV B115M (1x15 with 8" mid range)
Will also be able to A/B with SVT-CL and LMII
Amp at rehearsal is 2x15 w/ Altec 421's with an Acoustic 370; will have to compare with this rig as well.
